I don't have a problem with spiders (only the really, really big ones) but I do have a problem with the web they leave behind... (Just had my version of a spring cleaning, which does not amount to much.)

I'm no spider fan. But I did manage to photograph this one.
But, if it had run at me, I would have screamed like a girl!

Called a Water Spider.

Intellectually I get it. They don't want to bother me and I don't want to bother them.

It's partly the matter of the cobwebs they leave between the screen and the window (only in the hard to reach windows) and partly that the brown recluse, one of two in NA with necrotic venom, is common in Missouri. We shake our shoes and boots before putting them on. I know three people who have had bites - they had surgery to remove actual dead flesh. I've had my share of pretty angry spider bites over the years - large, painful, long-lasting welts - from rolling on them in my sleep.

Yikes!

Snakes don't bother me.

We have Brown Recluse jere as well. I've never been bitten, but when I was a medic I treated a few bites as well as one Black Window bite. Not pretty.
In 1977 I was on temporary duty in San Antonio, attending a several week class at Medina AFS. During that time we lived in field conditions. (tents)
The first night out I told the other guys "If you hear me talking in the middle of the night, I'm talking to the snakes. If you hear me scream like a little girl, there's a spider in my sleeping bag."

A few can cause you some real problems, but most are harmless...though all spiders can bite and inject venom. Some are more toxic than others.

Here are a couple best left alone...neither will kill you but they both can cause necrosis at the bite location....and hurt like hell!

These are just big 'ol friendly guys.

Haven't run across any squirrel spiders and hope to hell I never do!

Regards!

But does that mean they are more trustworthy than centipedes?

We still have the crib my wife had when she was a baby Arizona. It is fully enclosed - a top actually folds over and locks - and screened with a heavy metal mesh . . . .

to protect the baby from scorpions. I scoffed at this idea for many years until . . . .

We once visited a friend in Scottsdale. He had built a showpiece custom home out in the desert - he was very proud - and gave us a tour as soon as we dropped our bags. As we passed through the Master Bath to exit onto a terrace with a sunset view I heard a skittering in the marble tub. My buddy calmly slipped off a flip flop, whacked the 4" long black scorpion, scooped it up with a nearby tool designed expressly for the purpose and dumped the remains in the trash can.
