Yep, same for self employed. Well, actually, I remember when I was salaried, just as now being self employed, lots of overtime. We just don't get paid for it.

I have 127.9 hours of OT so far this quarter.

At 128 they can no longer designate my for OT, but I can work it at my discretion.

At 168 hours is a quarter the contract says they have to pay all OT hours worked at the double time rate.

The quarter ends on the 30th. Doubt I'll get to 168 by then. They usually begun to cut back when everyone gets close to 168.

But come October 1st and we will all be working 10 to 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, and weekends 8 hours each day.

And layoff rumors are floating about.

You must be building airplanes or something.

Which reminds me.

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, have been doing so much, with so little, for so long, that we now can do anything, with nothing at all.

Instantly.
I know. I'm just used to a very different working climate. And these last few years I've been spoilt with next to no overtime. In my first job I could have 30 hours OT in a single week. That was breaking all deals and laws, but hey, that's what it's like working for the government Now I have an employer that doesn't want to burn out its employees - because that would be bad economy.

Oh, and sometime in October we go from a 2.5 day rate to a 3 day rate. If they don't sell enough airplanes soon they say we may even go to a 5 day rate.
Ah... Huh?

I've put in a few weekends here and there, but wrangled some extra vacation time out of it. Ohh the joys of being an engineer who is also responsible for a business application. It's like my job is part engineer, part IT, part project management, and part herding cats.

We just work it. My last job at a university was 70 hour weeks, complaints about not doing enough and nothing in return for the extra work.

My new job is much better. Work like normal hours and get thanked for getting useful things done. Working in England is much nicer than in Australia. Sad to say since I am an Australian.

Thanks - I'll take credit for setting it up before handing to the spousal unit 😀

Mostly just really glad the weather gods smiled on us that day!

Right now a completed airplane rolls out the front door every 2.5 days.

Soon that rate will slow to one very 3 days.

And there are rumors that is may slow to one every 5 days.

Still a blistering pace.

The 747 line is on something like a 30 day rate.

Glaciers move faster than that.

Even post office workers move faster.

And that is right next door to you.

I've been to that factory when I drove Monstro. Neat place.

Does not look like the Paradise I know.

Where I come from Paradise was at the end of a number 9 bus until they changed the bus route numbers. And it had a lot of 70s houses and one of the O-bahn stations.

Sorry Mark, I didn't see your post.

{That felt as good the second time as it did the first!}

Ya think?

It escapes me the logic of how the place operates.

And still they crank out a phenomenal amount of airplanes every month.

The 737 plant in Renton is rolling something like 3 planes a day.

Let me repeat that for anyone who isn't paying attention.

Every day 3 planes roll out the door, ready for shakedown.

I bet that is a busy factory. I've been there many times, again when I drove Monstro, and indeed, it is a hive of activity.

Can't help you there.

The only work I have ever done that didn't pay overtime was truck driving, long haul. I got paid by the mile (and premiums for extra picks and drops, oversize and layovers), and had to work within the federal rules for hours on duty, hours on duty driving, and maximum hours every 7 days. There where times when I worked every day, 7 days a week, for weeks on end. I had one trip where I was out for 33 days.

It paid very well, but I grew tired of sleeping in a truck and only getting home infrequently.

Every other job I have ever had was hourly and paid overtime.

Well, almost.

When I did civil engineering work I was paid a salary, but never worked over 40 hours each week.
