Unethical for sure.
They use very coarse chip on our rural state highways, so smashed windscreens happen often. I'm on my 4th screen with our one car and 2nd with the other. Our insurance cover includes free glass cover, which means you don't have to pay an excess and you don't lose your no-claims bonus if you claim for car windows.
