Can anyone explain why people in the US seem to prefer ice?<br />

That phenomenon might be even worse in Texas. Bubba mugs, 44 oz sodas, I actually go into convenience stores for a cup of ice. I think most of us here prefer sodas and beverages on the brink of icy slush than just cool. If I have choice of cool refrigerated water or a carbonated beverage I will choose the water because I like my soda at the cold temp of nearly slush or it's not worth drinking. This comes from getting the soda out of the machine that had the pop bottles in a line and you open the door after putting in your money and pulled the soda out. I think they were 10 cents. If you picked the soda nearest the refrigeration it would be slushy cold. Oh yummy when most people had no air conditioning.

I still remember those slushy sodas back in the summers of the '50s (AC only in the local movie theater in North Carolina). Just epic. Saw a lot of movies too.

Brainfreeze was only for the untalented or those in far too much of a hurry. A slushy soda had to be sucked down at the ideal rate. Otherwise, a waste of your money.

OK, I did have to learn to avoid the pain. Brainfreeze is a great teacher.

Thanks for explaining. Is that associated with the sale of those slushy drinks as a method to make something like the desired effect into a 'for sale' item.

I can drink pop from a can or bottle and be happy with it just being cold, but if it's in a glass it has to have ice. It's the same for water, pop, tea, and coffee. If its in a glass, cold, and non alcoholic it needs ice.

When mom's 8 oz Cokes (and all soda pop) went from a nickel to seven cents she said she would not pay that price for them.
That lasted maybe a week.
I can remember when I was barely tall enough to peer into one of these machines.

I always like a soda fresh from one of those. Colder than cold. As close to frozen as it can be a not be frozen.

Refreshing on a hot summer day.

Found on Amazon's deal of the day today.
Better stock up while it's on sale.

Do you drink that with ice or just from the fridge?

As I left work to today I head there was traffic chaos on the A34 (a notoriously dangerous road near here). Between Milton and Marcham there had been a collision between two trucks about lunch time, one ran into the back of the one in front, and both rivers had an excursion to the Oxford hospital. One needed major repairs and the other was not too bad. Delays were about 1.5 hours and every one was being diverted to the minor roads around. according to Google maps, the road is still closed, 6-7 hours after the collision.

Glad I do not have to go that way, or where the traffic was diverted.

Lemon... really? You'd think it would be tart enough...

The real stuff is, but this synthetic stuff needs a little more kick.
