No, although I may end up being one before long. I love bees. A friend of mine has several hives. Also, a farmer friend of mine gets paid in honey for allowing his land to be used by a commercial beekeeper. So he gets given so much honey he has a year's supply. Hence, I am often the recipient of several jars of honey. We've not had to buy honey for a year or more, even though we use it every day.

I've planted a maple tree, but I suspect it's the wrong type for syrup.

My mom is a beekeeper.

On some property she used to own there was a patch of Japanese Knotweed, an invasive plant that looks a bit like bamboo, but has a broad leaf, and the stalks are weak. It is tuberous, and dies back every winter, leaving an ugly mess of dead and decaying junk. The stuff is nearly impossible to eradicate, spreads like crazy and kills off everything else, grass, shrubs, small trees.

But when it is blooming, it is heavy with white flowers.

Mom would place a few hives by it, and the honey was like molasses. Dark. Rich. And very sweet.

She won first prize at the state fair several years running.

Odd how such a bothersome plant can contribute to something so good.

We had bees but they like to die through the winter. But we have pails of honey
Fake maple syrup - bleugh! Only the real stuff is worth soaking pancakes in.
Both are great for flavouring whipping cream.

Maple syrup can also be good on vanilla ice cream. Also, if you get plain doughnut holes, they're yummy dipped into a little bowl of warm maple syrup.

BTW, FYI although many probably know this. The content of specific types of sugars and other ingredients have been analyzed for both maple syrup & honey. The composition of maple syrup is quite consistent, but honey is wildly variable depending on what flowers are available to the bees. So if honey always tastes the same to you, you're probably buying a commercial product from a super market. If you pick it up from roadside stands (a few hereabouts), or especially if you purchase from roadside stands when traveling to far parts of the country, you may find the flavor can vary significantly.
