Weather has shifted here, by about 6-8 weeks, as well.
I don't remember exactly when, but several years back the Earth shifted slightly on its axis which, as I've read, is resposible for the slight shift in the timing of the seasons.
Same thing in Australia, about mid or late 80s. Every year the farmers complained about late break in season but hauled in a big crop.

For a moment I considered using some alcohol (booze) in the nectar to lower the freezing point. Then I thought about the body mass of a hummingbird, and their possible lack of tolerance to liquor.

Made me laugh a bit, thinking about drunken hummingbirds crashing into my windows and giving me the drunken evil eye, then puking on my porch.

Then I decided that it would be better to be a good steward of the local flora and fauna.

do they make immersion heaters for nectar feeders?
Never thought to look.

But a quick trip around the Innerwebs saw this pop up:

Hummers Heated Delight - Our Feeders

Some guy in Minnesota don't ya know. Looks interesting, think I'm gonna have to grab us one.

How about a fake quote?
Sorry for serious. I remember the commentary of his funeral on Australian radio. And now my local train station has a sign just by the ticket machine saying his coffin was unloaded from the train there on its way to final destination nearby.

Those individuals need to be fired... They are not working and producing, they are not a part of a team, they are slacking on company time. I hate that to no end.
OK, chill pill time for me.
I with you here. If I was running a business, anyone and everyone who failed to be an asset to the organization would be looking elsewhere for work.

I would adopt that phylosophy, but, with my attitude lately, I'd have to fire myself.

I have to admit that on some hot summer nights I have filled the drinking bowls for the Raccoons with cold beer. Yes, they do love it and the resulting show in my yard is hilarious beyond description.

Soon that won't be a problem. I ran across this a few minutes ago.......it was quite amazing and shocking to me. I didn't realize the huge changes coming were so huge.

Forget the "politics" of the article and just read the statistics, they are eye opening! Racer...how much automation is in the plant where you work?

So many times I wanted to get fired or quit on the spot. When you crawl under a house and it is a foot deep in Do-Do ( Can I say that or will Otis turn me in?) and you know it will take all day for the repairs, it is a good time to resign.

A balmy 36F this morning......Otis was up all night burning those tires, bless his little heart!

Regards!

Automation is growing, and it won't stop. As a general rule, humans are lazy. That is why we always create machines and tools to do our work for us. Started with the cave man. Chasing down an animal for dinner was just too much work. So man devised ways to efficiently kill dinner. Now most of us get our meat at the supermarket. Meat that has been raised in a factory, with a lot of automation.

Then man decided to cultivate the land and grow crops. Again, digging the earth is hard work, so man invented all kinds of ways to get the job done. These days some guy sits in an air conditioned tractor with GPS guidance and a satellite radio while working hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland.

When man wanted to move about the planet more and more, walking or riding a horse just didn't cut it anymore. So he created ships, wagons, trains, trucks, airplanes, even spaceships.

Nope, we would rather sit around and enjoy the fruits of our labors, without having used our labors up. Man wants to play more than he wants to work.

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

As for automation in the World's Largest Building goes, it has been around for a long time. The earliest forms of automation didn't move though. Jigs and fixtures used to hold parts for assembly are a form of automation. Then there are the myriad machines both fixed and hand held. Presses, punches, drills, air operated hammers, etc. Over time moving automation has crept in. Every few years another part of the assembly and build process is engineered to be done with less human contribution.

Automating the manufacture of things is driven by multiple factors. Quality. Cost. Efficiency. Speed.

And laziness.

It is too much work to go back and do something over because one of us screwed it up. Let the robot do it, since it can do it faster, better, and cheaper, with better quality and repeatedly.

Robots are here to stay.

Gives us more time to be lazy.

Next up, robots to build, install, operate, maintain and replace robots.

Otis would have wrote raw sewage.

And I am so glad I never took up plumbing. I surely have the skillset for it. Just don't like what the pipes carry.

I was, however, a different kind of plumber. As a mobile hydraulic specialist I designed, built and maintained plumbing for hydraulic systems on utility trucks.

That's plumbing.

And I took a bath in hydraulic oil more than once.

Not quite as bad as raw sewage.
