Speaking of which, Jim, with regard to your current weather, and your propensity (perhaps compulsion) for sharing the details thereof, I have, once again, two words for you. No, not "lucky guy" nor "Happy New Year".
A couple of words for you from Otis ....Happy Shoveling!

It was 12F here Sunday morning when I put my pork shoulder on the smoker, no wind, so it wasn't bad at all.
Last night while I was grilling the temp was 41F with wind and I froze my butt off!
Pork shoulder is worth it!

Regards!

Thanks, makes this feel even better - for the all too few days out lasts.

But I actually came back to the club house to show you what I have to deal with these days.

Oh, of course.
None of us would have even thought of that if you hadn't brought it up.

No worries, it's 60° F here today, but there is a foul smelling smoke coming in from the south.

I was just taking out the rubbish (that's "trash" for you folks on the wrong side of the pond), when I noticed this on the side of the bin liner... in a humorous nod to JFK's 1963 speech in West Berlin...

It's the first off-forum thing that's made me chuckle today

And why does it need to declare its purpose?

I thought I knew almost everything about JFK and I didn't get it.

Wait, JFK went to Berlin?

At this point I'm in a position to say "I've forgotten more about JFK than you'll ever know." Unfortunately I've forgotten so much I know hardly anything.

However, the phrase he used was, in fact, appropriate to the way he used it, being he was not actually from Berlin.

"There is a misconception that Kennedy made a risible error by saying Ich bin ein Berliner. By using the indefinite article "ein," he supposedly changed the meaning of the sentence from "I am a citizen of Berlin" to "I am a Berliner" (a Berliner being a type of German pastry, similar to a jelly doughnut)
The indefinite article is omitted in German when speaking of an individual's profession or residence but is still used when speaking in a figurative sense. Since the President was not literally from Berlin but declaring his solidarity with its citizens, "Ich bin ein Berliner" was the only way to express what he wanted to say."
