Racer, I suspect that in your area of the country it's much as it is here.
We recognize and respect Canada's sovereignty, but we don't really consider Canadians to be "foreigners".

And it is a symbiotic relationship.

If I ever travel abroad, I will take on the Maple Leaf persona, complete with accent. Much safer to travel the world and be thought a Canadian.

In a semi-rural area we worked, several years ago, subdivisions were going in one at a time in a north to south direction.
While doing a preliminary survey on one tract of land a lady came out on her deck and told us how she hated to lose the trees and privacy at the back of her yard.
One of my crew members told her "Yeah, that's what the folks on the other side of you said when they put in your subdivision."

I'm a tree lover, not a hugger, and it was always hard for me to see trees being cleared, piled into a pit and burned with the aid of a giant gas powered blower.
Such a waste of a natural resource.

At least cut them up and sell for firewood. Someone nearby must have cool winters.

I grilled a couple of KC strip steaks last night and put together a wonderful meal to celebrate Mrs Rupert finally deciding to retire...not that that is an action in my best benefit.
Her response..."I don't know what I was thinking this morning, I just got that big raise and new and coveted position, I can't quit now!"

.....at least the steaks were supreme.
