In my case, a modern day car might as well be a Millennium Falcon if I had to do the repairs.
The EPA mandated emissions controls and the MFG computers...
Unfortunately, to TS a modern vehicle, it takes $$$$ in specialized computer diagnostic equipment to find out what is going on.
Give me points and a condenser!

Here, 5 more hours of driveway gymnastics from today. The left to right cross-over brake-line, hand bent, close enough.
DOT-3 is still as nasty as it used to be. Sure would melt the K3 right to the mag body.
Oh heck. DOT-3 would melt the Terminator!

No way! I used to spend far too much time trying to set points just right. Give me electronics, fuel injection, disc brakes, air bags, and all the other great advances that have made ownership easier and better..as well as safer.

Which reminds me of the greatest invention ever....the microwave oven! Just amazes me every time I use it!

Regards!

Haynes manuals are always missing critical information about the stuff that really counts.
Yes. Found that very disappointing. Plopped USD 300 or so for the Ford shop manuals before there was internet! Fantastic, thick as hell books.
ALLDATA has the same thing for peanuts.

Ah the old tune-up kits, points, condenser and rotor.
I'm with Ex Finn on this one, I could set points blindfolded.
Now where did I put my feeler gauge?

Ive decide the best invention is a sous vide circulator, fancy French boil in bag cooking, but the best pork roast I ever made was a crown that cooked in a bag and just browned /seared after (some swear by steak as well certainly makes a perfect rare steak and will hold it that way for several hours
I need to do some 48 hour ribs to really test it

Did a lot of work on first several cars I owned. Pulled out the engine + transmission on one to replace a cracked piston (!) that I still keep as a souvenir. Had a car that, when it rained, I had to stop and dry the interior of the distributor every time I hit a significant puddle. I can hardly see the engine now for all the tubes and wires, but I can go 100,000 miles with nothing but gas, oil and one replacement of the tires. Never look back. BUT, it scares the bejeezus out of me that before I lay down the last time there will be driverless cars on the road with me. For pity sake, even when a vehicle runs on rails it needs a human somewhere who is paying attention.

30' away, in the garage. Both of them, metric and inch.
Don`t forget the little pouch off grease.

Let me guess. Renault, Fiat or Opel. Non liked damp or cold. Add AMC to the mix

The Renault had the cracked piston. The Rover 2000 could not keep water out of its distributor. However, the Renault distributor went bad around 70,000 mi and had to be replaced. Neither vehicle made it to 100,000.

Yup, I'm with you - prefer points any day! Feeler gauge safely in small toolbox!
