@bertwert
And the problem is...?
We have been married almost 38 years. I think by the time I returned home in the spring, the house locks would be changed, my office stripped, my scuba gear sold for pennies, all my shop tools given away, ...

Yep, that would be a problem.
I'd really miss my tools.

See Jim?

A solution.

With Mrs. Jim in the Thule thing you'll have plenty of room for the camera gear.

And I hear you on the Subaru not handling a 35 foot trailer. I think it is scary to see people pulling any kind of trailer with a car than small. The only thing my Subaru hauls is me and Mrs. Racer, and our stuff if we are traveling.

What kind of Subie do you have?

Here is mine, contemplating electrocution.

Or death by giant tree.

I use my Dodge when I want to pull something or go camping.

You guys are terrible

As for Mrs Jim in the Thule, that's a pretty inconsiderate suggestion. It has no windows, seat-belt or air vents. I can't fault the sound-proofing, though...

Mrs. Jim has a 2009 Outback, and I traded my 1999 Forester for a used 2011 Forester. Nothing wrong with the 99, but I wasn't sure if I could trust it for regular long-distance work trips. Our 111 year-old garage is a converted carriage house and a truck's mirrors wouldn't fit through the doors. Prior owners had sold our home's small horse pasture for other housing leaving a standard city block size lot with a big post-Victorian home, the carriage house and not much else. On-street parking is banned in the winter so as to not impede the snow plow. That's understandable when you typically get over 20 feet / 7M of snow each year.

I suppose a drill and a hole saw could rectify the view and ventilation issues.

And don't those Thule things have securement straps inside?

Twenty feet!??!?!

Mount Baker Ski Area usually gets about that much.

But it is the top of a mountain. And at over 10,000 feet one would expect some winter snow.

20 feet?
I may not complain so much about our 2-3 feet.

Of course, if I don't complain about that I'll have to find something else to whine about to fill the void so maybe I'll just stick to snow.

This past winter there were about two or three days when some snowy looking stuff came down. The total accumulation, if it had accumulated would have been about quarter inch. Maybe half inch at the outside if using a Volkswagen ruler set up for maximising snow fall. (or is that measures of snow fall?)

Watch out or the Australians will assign to you an epithet they have often assigned to English people.

And we thought we had lots of snow... 10-12 feet a year.
