Yep, maybe the English are biased, Aldis is a German market, you know? I bet their shoe shine man in the Gentleman's Lounge is familiar with Winking Owl....one hell of a shoe shiner!

I'm still in a fog from last week, so if I already posted this....sorry.....I'm old, and have two broken feet and numerous other problems you don't want to hear about.
Here are some of the shots from our trip....almost all of them were shot by Mrs Rupert. I barely touched the K1, maybe a handful of very unremarkable shots. Toy Cameras are just too handy and too easy to use to not use them...so you do!

If it wasn't for her, we would have almost nothing to show for the trip in the way of pictures. I just drove and did what I was told.....I bet some of you know that routine?

Regards!

BTW- That really bothered me......I love bunnies and have a real soft spot for little animals...if you didn't know? I hope he didn't suffer, and pray no Englishman tried to get his big legs. If so, don't tell me about it!

I know this subject is not permitted here, photography.

But just remember to avoid the combination: urologist and camera. The former, alone, is sufficient to avoid.

...
I've been in a few fancy places, and the food was indeed very good at almost all of them. Atmosphere matters little at my age....if the food is delicious, I'm happy!
That's one of the nice things about Rules, Jim... It might be a fancy restaurant, but it doesn't have a dress-code as such - or, if it does, they don't enforce it. They'd probably draw the line at farm pants, but I've eaten there in an open-collar shirt, smart jeans and shoes before now.

Which reminds me... I'm sure I must have told this story here before, but... some years back, my then-wife, son and I were in NY for a long weekend (actually, I'd been in town on business for the week, and my family flew out to meet me on the Friday so we could enjoy a few days of down time). A close friend of mine, sadly now gone, got us great tickets for the first game of the Subway Series. After the game , we wanted somewhere good to eat, but it was one of my earliest trips to NY and I didn't know any of the good restaurants - so I called my friend and asked him if he could recommend somewhere. When he called me back, he said we had reservations in his name at Del Frisco's on 6th Ave. When we arrived and I saw the kind of place it was, I was shocked, as my wife, son and I were dressed in Yankees tee-shirts, jeans and sneakers. I fully expected to get turned away, but the staff were so welcoming and said we mustn't worry about our clothes, that it was obvious we'd been to the game, and they'd love to hear about it.

We had a great dinner, and fantastic service.

I left a big tip.

... And I've recommended the place to almost everyone I know. That is a good restaurant

without looking it up, when bob makes his pizza dough from scratch ( i'm positive he has tried by now)
he could substitute milk for water, let it rise once, knead it, form it and bake it

to create a pocket just flip the bread half way though the bake ( 12-15 minutes)
you could even do it on the grill on a pizza stone or in a lightly greased cast iron skillet

the single rising will give you a denser loaf
then you can test it by dropping it on the counter and see if it stotts
That sounds like a pretty authentic (if unusually-conceived) stottie cake

Pretty nice wine list!
Yes indeed, Mark - some lovely wines in there. Pre-dinner cocktails are great, too... With the exception of their dirty vodka martinis (I've had much better, in all honesty), their cocktails are excellent

At least in that case you only need to pay list price and the staff will need to be satisfied with the wages they agreed with the boss. Give them a suggestion, tips come for providing exceptional service, not doing their baseline job.
Oh my, you've opened a can of worms there, Tim, I fear

Bread rolls and mustard for those hot dogs
Hot dogs?

Them ain't hot dogs, there.

Them's bangers.

And a banger needs to be turned carefully and frequently until the outside is crispy and dark brown. Then some good coarse ground mustard, on a decent french roll or baguette.

Maybe with some shredded Tillamook® sharp cheddar cheese and diced onions sprinkled across the length.

Them ain't hot dogs Pilgrim.

My ears listening to the music, and my teeth sinking into those bangers, and my lips tasting some of that beer would make it complete.

Hey, this guy started it.

Pentaxdude

Get him back here, get him active in this community again and maybe we can discuss your concern.

Oh, and bring some bacon.

Bacon makes everything better.

And I will not buy a K3.

Ever.

And that is a long time.

Missing old Rupert...and some short-long Rupert stories?

It was a good vacation, but a little strange too. Now that we are back I am covered in "things to do" that didn't get done last week....so no Rupert Stories for a while.

Short summary....we saw Big Bend, briefly, saw lots of other places too. Ate some good food, drove over a thousand miles. Spent lots of money but not much of it on "things". Wonderful weather, excepting that Big Bend was covered in a smog haze much of the time.

Coming down from the mile high basin area in the Chisos mountains.

Out front of our motel at Study Butte on the edge of Big Bend. 20 years old and the Jeep never missed a beat!
Attachment 354240

We found no gold or silver, but did find bacon at the Chili Pepper Cafe!
Attachment 354241

No place like home......never was more true!

Regards!

Oh yeah.....Squirrels seemed not to notice I was gone.....
Awesome trip story Jim!

Oh, and did I tell it is nice to see you?

Well we have our own butties, pork butts (aka shoulder, aka Boston butt) slow smoked for hours, shredded and topped with sauce and/or coleslaw.
Not spuds pretending to be protein.

I'll take two to go please.

I'll have them 'all the way'.
