I've been in a few fancy places, and the food was indeed very good at almost all of them. Atmosphere matters little at my age....if the food is delicious, I'm happy!
That's one of the nice things about Rules, Jim... It might be a fancy restaurant, but it doesn't have a dress-code as such - or, if it does, they don't enforce it. They'd probably draw the line at farm pants, but I've eaten there in an open-collar shirt, smart jeans and shoes before now.
Which reminds me... I'm sure I must have told this story here before, but... some years back, my then-wife, son and I were in NY for a long weekend (actually, I'd been in town on business for the week, and my family flew out to meet me on the Friday so we could enjoy a few days of down time). A close friend of mine, sadly now gone, got us great tickets for the first game of the Subway Series. After the game , we wanted somewhere good to eat, but it was one of my earliest trips to NY and I didn't know any of the good restaurants - so I called my friend and asked him if he could recommend somewhere. When he called me back, he said we had reservations in his name at Del Frisco's on 6th Ave. When we arrived and I saw the kind of place it was, I was shocked, as my wife, son and I were dressed in Yankees tee-shirts, jeans and sneakers. I fully expected to get turned away, but the staff were so welcoming and said we mustn't worry about our clothes, that it was obvious we'd been to the game, and they'd love to hear about it.
We had a great dinner, and fantastic service.
I left a big tip.
... And I've recommended the place to almost everyone I know.
That is a good restaurant

he could substitute milk for water, let it rise once, knead it, form it and bake it
to create a pocket just flip the bread half way though the bake ( 12-15 minutes)
you could even do it on the grill on a pizza stone or in a lightly greased cast iron skillet
the single rising will give you a denser loaf
then you can test it by dropping it on the counter and see if it stotts
That sounds like a pretty authentic (if unusually-conceived) stottie cake

Yes indeed, Mark - some lovely wines in there. Pre-dinner cocktails are great, too... With the exception of their dirty vodka martinis (I've had much better, in all honesty), their cocktails are excellent

Oh my, you've opened a can of worms there, Tim, I fear
