Mrs. Racer and I bought 6.2 acres in 2004 for $205,000. It had a 40 x 60 shop and a single wide trailer house on it. I designed a home, moved the trailer about 60 feet South and built the house. After the house was complete I tried to sell the trailer. Lots of interest but no one had the money to pay for the thing and the cost to move it. Then I tried to give it away. Still, no one had the money to pay to move it.

So I dismantled it and scrapped it. Made about $5,000 from the aluminum, steel and copper, and what I couldn't sell went to the dump, and that cost a couple hundred bucks.

The day the basement was dug.

And now it is home sweet home.

The assessed value we pay taxes on is around $650,000 or so. Market value close to $1,000,000.

Oh, and my shop is bigger than the house.

Wouldn't have it any other way.

Well Duh!!!! The shop should always be bigger than the house. And have a well equipped "doghouse" for those days when our wives banish us to it.

Daughter and SIL recently built a smallish, 1 bedroom house in CO on 60 acres, but the pole barn is huge.
It's not finished inside yet, but it will have a bedroom, bath, craft room, and large workshop.

Here's to cheating, stealing, fighting and drinking.

If you cheat, may you cheat death.

If you steal, may you steal a woman's heart.

If fight, may you fight for a brother.

And if you drink, may you drink with me.

Cheers!

That made good sense to me......but cleaning the vacuum cleaner still sucks. I got frustrated and ripped the bag off a couple of weeks ago....took two hours to get my office clean again.

Somebody has some deep pockets! When you get a 8mm wide angle lens you can show us their main mansion!

I'm just gonna hang around off and on today....When Mrs Rupert gets in from Church, she has "stuff" for me to do....I thought Sunday was a day of rest?

Hanging around.....

Regards!

I bet if you went to church with her you would be able to claim that on the Sabbath no laborious tasks are to be done.

She would have no other choice than to agree, and you could go into town for a nice romantic late lunch/early dinner.

And I'll fight for your right to do so, while you steal her heart yet again, as you cheat death by winning her over, and I'll drink to your success.

Where I came from the official assessed value was always carefully made about 90% of market value, so no-one would have a basis for complaint. The council then worked out what budget it wanted and did the sums on total rateable value to work out how much to charge each person.

The best deal was to own a median or below median value house in a high value council area, which probably also meant that the area was well established so the budget was for maintenance rather than new build of the infrastructure. You also get the benefits of many years of build of the local infrastructure and the fact that all the neighbours probably have well established gardens etc etc.

So you learned from that to clean the vacuum cleaner outside, near the bin where you will toss the dirty stuff.

There is a logical inconsistency there. The Sabbath is a day of rest, so it is alright to pay other people to work on the Sabbath.

Carl/Racer was very unlucky to get pulled over. They save money on police here, so most people reckon on getting away with anything because police to administer fines do not seem to be looked at as profit centre3s by the government.
