I would think that if this were the case, holding the starter engaged for very long may cause it to get hot, as the current passes through the motor windings.
That is exactly what I saw in my situation. Having someone in the car holding the key in the start position while I checked the starter motor showed that it got very hot, very quickly. I actually discovered it by accident when my hand brushed against the motor housing while I was checking something else. If I remember correctly the discovery led to me snatching my hand away and losing the skin on several knuckles!

Having troubles with the ol' tractor.
Can't get it to start, the solenoid will click but the starter motor won't turn over. Wiring seems to be all good. The motor will work on the bench, so that's not the problem.
Any ides?
Heard that sound many many times in the past when a weak battery could kick in the solenoid but not turn the starter. Of course these were not on tractors. I've been forever deprived of owning a tractor by Mrs Rupert.

Regards!

Mrs. Racer knows better than to ask me to choose between her and my machines. She does object to me having more than one though. So, I am working hard to demonstrate the value of having 2 tractors, a riding mower, a walk behind mower (thin one keeps her behind tight and firm, bonus!), a walk behind sickle bar mower (for the annual Battle of the Blackberries festival), a belly mount and 3 point mount sickle bar mowers for the 8N (neither of which I have ever used, but plan to one day).

Then there is the 1948 Adams Motor Grader.

Funny, she never complains about that one. And it is 10 meters long, weighing around 9,300 kilos, so it ain't like she doesn't see it sitting there with weeds growing up around it.

Next big project is gonna be a machine shed. My 12 x 18 meter shop just isn't big enough anymore.

Funny too, how she has rarely said anything about the 14 Datsun Z cars scattered about.

Sensationalism sells.

Bert, you disappoint me. I had not expected this kind of sensationalism from you

The latest from the beeb is that the election starts in the morning. Then the campaign will end. And very late tomorrow evening we should have a result.

Hope not a hung parliament. That would be bad. No party able to govern.

Tired tonight. Drove to Bristol today for a meeting near one of Brunel's famous bridges. Going there this morning got stuck behind a truck doing 40 in the 60 zone, for 25 miles. Boring. Long queue, which he probably is bragging about at a pub somewhere, now.

And the truck driver in front was obviously over paid, at every corner and round about along the way I saw diesel spilled on the road and could smell it inside. I find it expensive enough I do not splash it about.

The news channels in US I saw in hotels are usually limited to Fox and CNN. And the CNN is a massive downgrade on the CNN I see in Singapore and Malaysia.

In local news preparations are being made for the total eclipse, since we're nearly centered in its path.
Hotels are getting booked up, heavy traffic is expected, and plans for providing cooling centers for folks that have never dealt with Missouri type August weather. It can be brutal with the high humidity.
Nat Geo, The Travel Channel, and others are expected to set up in a small town a few miles south of us.
Hope the clouds stay away.

We were in Boonville last year. I wish we could be there for the eclipse. It's just about dead center in the path.
Although.........
California (MO) would be better. Not quite as centered in the path, but Burger's isn't in Boonville.

I wouldn't believe FOX if they broadcast the sun was going to come up in the East and set in the West and the sky is blue.

CNN?

Another waste of broadcast bandwidth.
