Some peole take delight in inflicting pain and the like on others. Others do such tasks matter-of-factly, because it is something that needs to be done.

Are you of the former or the latter? Now, be honest!

That was actually quite helpful to me. In he end, not too bad. And this is where the engineering analogy of going in for repairs is also helpful...
my dentist was my friend before he was my dentist
this is a conversation we've had
he tends to think of each procedure in the terms you describe

it's a guy thing and seems the bigger the guy, the bigger the wuss

i'm six foot but one of the crews I worked on I was the little guy
during storm season the company finally insisted on tetanus shots

the nurse they used was kinda of cruel
she had a dramatic lead up to the injection, then just smiled as these behemoths passed out as the needle neared

one spring I was the last in line...she asked if I was last because I was afraid
I said no, because I liked watching the show

I got a lollipop...no kidding!

Every year when flu season rolls around the local tv stations have to show video after video of people getting shots.
Up close of course.
I don't mind getting shots, but don't like seeing needles jabbed into arms.

After the hip replacement I had to give myself daily injections of an anti coagulant, Lovenox. They showed me how to do it while I was still in hospital. The needles are just like those used by diabetics. I simply pinched up some of my belly and inserted the needle.

Sounds easy, right?

Try it sometime.

I would prep the area with alcohol. Then uncap the needle, place it against the skin, take a deep breath, and as I exhaled I pushed the needle in. It is only about 14mm long, but it always felt like it was gonna poke out my back.

Then I still had to push the plunger on the syringe.

I did that for 6 weeks.

After a few days I was running out of fresh places to stick myself.

I guess I got off easy. I only had to do it for 30 days.

Hey, it could have been worse. I could have fallen off of a roof.

I was a medic in the USAF. It was a requirement of the job.
I truly, truly, feel sorry for the recipient of the first shot of APPG that I gave for GC. (Okay, maybe only one "truly" )

That's nothing ....I know a guy that fell off a roof TWICE! No kidding!

The nurse that gave me that last shot in my nice tight hiney used a needle the size of a garden hose, and my butt was sore for a week. I'm not squeamish about shots and such, but I will admit that if I ever have half a toenail sliced open and half removed with a pair of needle nose pliers again, I will opt for the anesthesia. Macho-Man has its limitations, and that was one of them. I never flinched or moaned, but when done and I got in my Jeep and went down the road I screamed out like a stuck pig!

Regards!

It hurts worse to see it than to have it....

Back in '88 we were at Big Bend and riding in the back country full of cactus and brushy plants...rough terrain. Mrs Rupert was wearing the boots shown here and complained she ran into a cactus and got a "sticker". I took a look and found a long sharp spline through her right boot and the calf of her leg and out the back of the boot. I had bike tools and took a pair of pliers and very carefully pulled it out. It was almost 4 inches long. She never squealed and we pulled the boot, took a look and it had gone through the meat of her calf. Fortunately, it never caused her a problem, but pulling it out really freaked me.

You know I wouldn't lie to you! .........said they were "accidents"? How do you "accidentally" get on a roof??
