Do any of you put a little salt on your melon slices? Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, etc.
My parents always did, and I always have.
Thought to ask this while munching on a honeydew today.
I used to put salt on watermelon because my parents did. Never any other fruit. Haven't done it in years. Since things like watermelon were usually consumed at the end of a long hard day of work on a hot day, adding salt probably enhanced the re hydration process. ie. made it more refreshing.

Salt enhances the flavor of many foods. Same reason we use various spices in certain recipes. What would Italian or Mexican or many other dishes be without spices?
Salt on melons ....and lots of other stuff too....gotta love it!

Regards!

I believe a previous record was held by a Canadian once, as well.

I've always heard that you shouldn't kick someone when he's down.
I don't understand that phylosophy though. It seems to me that's the safest time to kick somebody.

Don't you men like the taste of melons, so that you have to disguise it with salt?

No, why would ya put salt on ye melon?
We're not talking about covering it in salt, just a light sprinkle.
Try it please and get back with us.

One of my former canoeing buddies works in the plant that makes those weapons. They are custom made for the sniper.

As for not kicking people when they are down, in Native American traditions guys brag they wouldn't beat up an opponent when he was even a little bit sick. "I want to beat him when he's in top form."

I'm not sure that fits with the historical record, but it is an attitude I've heard natives express on a number of occasions. I think that was just like every day stuff. I'm sure once the war paint went on "banshee" was the word.

Not unless you want to blow those pipes out of the other end.
