A couple of years older...still just as handsome as ever! For all of us Otis Appreciation people, we can be proud!

April 2015

July 2017

He looked a little strange to me today...kind of a "dizzy look"?.......but then he admitted he had been drinking, It's 95F out there and very humid.....so it was not out of line for him to have 5-6 cold beers. For his size and weight, he can handle it well!

Regards!

Very hot over here, mid thirties (nineties for y'all) and extreme chance of fire. Over 150 wildfires across BC right now, and a province-wide state of emergency (first since 2003 fires). Luckily no fires anywhere near us.

The telco has both overhead (visible in the photo) and underground along that stretch of road. I believe the cabinets there are all tied into the underground trunk.
the stuff on the pole doesn't look familiar but buried cable can hit a aerial dip and be spliced anywhere

mixed facilities exist sometimes just because of the budgets when they are placed

another hierarchy...underground, buried, aerial
yet another...cable, wire

when I was a sprout, att&t still had eight or ten ten-pin crossarms of copper carrying toll traffic out of town
it wasn't replaced with buried cable until the very late sixties

the local telco did as well

The wire at the top is Comcast fiber.

The wire just below is Frontier (previously Verizon/AT&T/General Telephone/Bell Telephone) telephone.

In 30 years working at an electric utility it always amused me how many people called power poles telephone poles, even when there was no telco attached to the pole.

In fact, the telco here has few poles that they own, rather they have joint pole agreements with the utility to attach to the power poles below the neutral. The engineers size the power poles to accommodate the extra load of attachments of telco and cable.

He looked more sober in this pose today....but I don't think he was any less loaded. With the heat here, I sure don't blame him, and am sure you don't either Racer?
Sober or not...still damn handsome!

Regards!

BOB- If you are listening......ever try the Aldis pizzas? About to pop one in the oven now. I prefer the $4.99 Ultimate Meat version......they have several versions to choose from. Mrs Rupert is very pick about the sauce on a pizza......most of the take-out brands like Dominos, Little Caesar, etc do not meet her approval......but the Aldis do! If you haven't tried one....try it!

I've looked at them, but haven't bought one...yet.
They don't come in our favorite flavors, bacon & mushroom for Mrs Bob, or any meat & mushroom for Mr Bob.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll give the varieties another look see.

Mrs Bob is going to the Muny (outdoor) Opera tonight, so I'm cooking for one.
Plans are a Toast-Tite pie iron toasted cheese/bacon/onion/jalapeno sandwich grilled over a small charcoal fire.
Pics tomorrow if it happens.

Sounds great.....better than an opera! The Ultimate Meat has mushrooms...I know because Mrs Rupert picks them off and gives them to me.

Regards!

They call it the Municipal (Muny) Opera, but it's actually an outdoor theater for plays.
No way in hell am I going to sit outside in this heat and humidity for a play, or inside for that matter.

No doubt. Anytime you get that many bodies together the heat generated will grow exponentially.

Ain't enough ice cold beer in the whole Show Me state to cool me down form that kind of oppressive heat.

Actually, it might not be in the lyrics. There is a song on that album that has Frank talking in the background. He says something like,

"It looks just like a Telefunken U-47
You'll love it..."

I'd post the video but the lyrics caught the attention of the Moral Right way back when they were witch hunting musicians for naughty talk in their songs.

You can read the lyrics to that particular song here. NOTE: NSFW

From there you may wish to find the song on YouTube and have a listen.

Actually, the entire album is like a rock opera. Listening to the album in its entirety from beginning to end allows one to understand the whole story.

And Zappa was a musical genius.

I mean, can anyone else claim they appeared on a late night talk show solely to play a bicycle as a musical instrument?

I doubt it............
It all makes sense now!

Yes I know. It's usually around a 100 in the evening. No idea why it's so slow today.

Ah, yes. There is that little detail. Back to the drawing board!
