Our ping the other day was around 300ms, quite fast today at 50ms.....
300ms?

I beat Mark with 8 over his 16.

But it takes more than a ping. Those packets of data can be brutal. Try cramming a 5 kilo packet through a 2 kilo wire.

To be fair, the 300ms was right after they had a breakdown and were on back-up equipment. Our average is around the 50ms of today.
Yep, pretty much.

UPRR had the same arrangement at a switch yard west of here
without a bucket truck you had to climb through the signal stuff to get to the voice
One of the bucket trucks I used to work on.

An Altec Double Elevator, an AM855 55foot over center lift mounted on a 65 foot elevator unit, on the back of a 3 axle International 4900 truck. Total height to the bottom of the bucket is 125feet.

The M signifies material handling. The winch at the bucket can lift crossarms and other items, even small transformers. In addition to the rated bucket load of 600lbs (2 linemen and tools).

Maximum wind to fly the lift is 35mph.

Well, I'll see y'all at the end of August. It's time to head away and play the bagpipes. I'll probably check back in the morning one last time and post a couple bagpipe tunes to keep you occupied when I'm gone

In fact, the telco here has few poles that they own, rather they have joint pole agreements with the utility to attach to the power poles below the neutral. The engineers size the power poles to accommodate the extra load of attachments of telco and cable.
Did that for a year or so way back. The Stobie pole is an engineer's dream for that, because it is a completely engineered pole, has flat sides making it easy to attach hardware and has well defined strength characteristics.
