Robertson/square drive screws are great for high-torque, no-drill assembling
they work pretty well with drills as well

Don't leave out the discussion on the relative merits of the various configurations, either. Buttress, isometric, acme, square....
Ooh, I just got a bit of a shiver myself. I think I need a cigarette.
Don't leave out Whitworth.

how will I ever find the north forty if it's metric?
That'll be 16.19 hectare now.

As to the "slotted Philips" screws; slotted screws work fine with flat screwdrivers and Philips work fine with Philips. The combination slotted/Philips don't work worth a damn with either. The guy who came up with that idea should be tried for Crimes Against Humanity right along side of the genius that invented shag carpeting.
Let's not forget JIS cross-head screws, a Japanese invention designed solely to lure the unsuspecting Philips screwdriver owner into a false sense of security...

Datsun? Don't you mean Nissan?
Nope.

Datsun.

Two of my Datsuns (at one time I owned 14 of them).

Well congress passed and the president signed into law a bill mandating metric as the official measurement system of the US. This became effective January 1, 1880.
I remember that.

It is what caused General Motors to produce bastard automobiles that had a combination of SAE and Metric fasteners on them. What a pain.

What I don't understand was why the world did not adopt Robertson head screws. Torx me off a bit. I tried calling the standards people about this, but they Philiped me off and told me to get my head on the straight and narrow. I was just trying to get a standard squared away.
Now that's a riot!

cheesy

a quarter mile by quarter mile
that's forty acres

the metric system is the only successful attempt by the French at world domination

RESIST!

saves a step or two

Me neither.
This morning I was practicing shooting hummers with my 11.811" lens.
300mm sounds a lot bigger.

Oh, and great image Bob.

I continue to live in hope that the metric system is just a temporary aberration
the idea that an overarching concept would simplify life is just nuts or at best a sign of weakness
Metric is so much simpler. Ones and zeroes, base 10.

Easy.

Simple.

None of this silly feet, inches, yards, miles, none of which correlate, and require a math degree to use.

When was the last time you bought a lens for your camera and it was defined by its focal length in inches?

Never.

That's actually the view of Mount Rushmore from the Wyoming side.

I've seen it. It's on the truck route that bypasses the park.
Mount Rushmore's better side. Seen from the Cowboy state.

Here we drive miles using fuel bought in litres and consumed in miles per gallon. Real gallons, not the rip off gallons promulgated by Wall St types to extract profit from the unsuspecting.

simpler has absolutely nothing to do with it

btw... zeroes and ones....binary
easy but cumbersome

just because the benighted manufacturers of optics insist upon the use of the metric system doesn't really mean a thing in my warm and fuzzy world
if I had to use math or any of the other sciences to enjoy photography, i'd play badminton instead...I hate badminton
