Every year in the spring the woodpeckers go after the fireplace chimney. Notice that it is made of metal, stainless I believe.

Very annoying when they are peck peck pecking, rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

So the satellite innerwebs is 25mbps down and 3mbps up.

The telco plan is much slower, but there are no monthly limits on data.

The satellite option has 'plans' with set monthly data limits. All the plans have '50gigs of free data, 2~8am'. I need to go press the neighbours about the setup, now that they have had it up and running for a bit, see if the bugs have been worked out, and are they better off.

Last year when my daughter and hubby moved to CO, and were waiting for their house build to be finished, they stayed with my son and his wife.
Son's wife uses their satellite connection for business, so she's stingy with the data used by anyone else.
My daughter nicknamed her sister-in-law The Wifi Nazi.

the neighbors say that high winds and heavy precipitation cause blips and outright outages
however they have observed when it is firing on all eight their service is quite good

Racer,

Perfectly easy solution to your problem.

Build a multi billion dollar race track in your back yard and convince NASCAR to come up there a few times a year. And hold a few races every year for electric cars only. Think of how exciting the pit stops will be when the cars stop to get their batteries recharged. Plus your track will qualify as "green". Get government grants by promising all the jobs this will create. Then get the utilities upgraded so that the fiber line goes by your house. Even of the project fails, you will still have a great place to play with your toys and great internet service. Since no one expects all these government promised jobs to materialize anyway you can blame it all on the politicians.

This is something that truly puzzles me.
The Space Shuttle flies at over 17,000 miles per hour and can maintain radio communication, but when the wind blows over about 50 mph I intermittently lose my cable t.v. signal (which is microwave at some point.) I once asked my cable provider why that happens. They didn't have an answer.

Just guessing...but I doubt there is much wind out in space....probably little rain or snow either? Hey don't complain...you have those 3 great days a year when everything is just right!

Regards!

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I've got the same two words for you that Racer had yesterday.

No, not "happy birthday" or "lucky guy" or "merry Christmas"
