There are Victorian era homes in my region that have very tall ceilings and doors. I've never measured them, but would have to guess the doors are 2500mm to 2800mm tall.

Yes, I've seen ones up to 8 feet tall. (And in palaces in Europe, even higher.) But, in the last 100 years or so, most doors seem to be 80 inches. Old 16th and 17th century doors were often low, in ordinary houses, I suspect because people were generally shorter. But 80 inches seems to have become a "standard height almost everywhere.

You're right, of course. Except that a purchased 4x2 measures 90x45mm, where a true 4x2 would be 102x51mm. But that's rough sawn, of course, where the dressed size is 90x45mm. (It used to be 94x47mm, but has since be standardised down to 90x45mm) And we'll talk of an eight by two which is actually 190x45mm, not 203x51mm.

Plywood is interesting. Typically, a sheet of plywood is 2440x1220mm. Which is of course 96x48 inches, or 8x4 feet.

Doors are 1980 x 910/860/810/760/710/660/610mm which is odd. Everywhere else in the world as far as I can determine, doors are 2032mm tall, which is 80 inches. And, 813mm is 32 inches, 762 is 30 inches, and so forth. So, our door widths derive from inch measurements. But the height, in New Zealand is odd. 1980mm is almost 78 inches. So why we have 2 inch shorter doors than the rest of the world I don't know and I have been unable to establish. Old houses (from 1900-1920's had 80 inch tall doors. Yet, no-one can tell me when the powers that be decided to shorten doors with 2 inches.
I think most doors here are 204 cm tall, but I also see 184, 194, and 200 cm doors for sale.

Ah, the fridge/grill crapper combo, never seen one in person, only on the internet.
I'll stick with my kettles.
Yesterday's pecan wood smoked bacon.

This morning's McBob.

In case anyone cares.

That's about 25 posts per day.

Every day, until 10/10/2017.

Those always impart a certain 'flavor' to the meat grilled and the beer that is chilled.

Well at least a guy wouldn't have far to go, when those things begin to work though.

Just make sure to dump the ice onto the coals first.

Ya wanna have a nice cool place to go.

I do believe not many are left after the Brits caved. To quote Neil Gaiman (again):
Bidding in horse auctions was in pounds and payment was the same number of guineas. The difference in value was the auctioneers commission.

Even a weirdo system has its value.

I saw a picture of an installation of a line of them without the drink cooler in PNG. They were having a big cook up. Saw picture about 1980.
