Why am I whining?
Because it's what I do.

Looks like a little cool spell of 99.5F this afternoon, not the 102F of the past two days. For the past 3 days if you dropped a feather it would float straight to the ground...not even a hint of breeze.
I've been out there a couple of minutes...can't breathe at all, just gasp for air. This year I am actually looking forward to cool weather! Cool dry air...that's what my damaged lungs need!

This old guy was on the fence and he was doing some gasping for air too...and wing lifting to cool off a little...it is rough on everything.....except the damn squirrels, they can survive any heat or any cold as long as they have plenty to eat.

Regards!

Yep. Besides that, I'm a believer in always playing your strong suit first.

Same here, they predicted 97, but it was only 91 just now when I grilled 2 thick pork chops.
Record for the date yesterday at 108.
First time this week I've needed charcoal to grill something.

Yes, it has been a bit warm here, lately. At least you passed through on a day that wasn't really hot.
In 1999 we took a vacation during the first two weeks of August. We went through Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and into Southern California and then back through Arizona and Nevada.
The hottest weather we saw that Summer? Right here in Pierre the week before we left. 117° F. That particular day we had the distinction of being the hottest city in the nation.
One day, earlier that same year, in February, we were the coldest city in the nation.
That's the Utopia that is central South Dakota.
South Dakota is indeed a land of extremes.

Left Arnold, Nebraska this morning at 4am.

Drove to Alliance, topped up the gas tank, grabbed a bite to eat, and visited Carhenge (pictures will follow). From Carhenge we headed to the Crazy Horse Memorial, then headed over to Mount Rushmore, then grabbed a very tasty bacon cheeseburger, fries and a beer at a place just outside of Deadwood. After the tasty treats we checked out Deadwood, then cruised through Sturgis. After that we passed through Belle Fourche, and landed in Broadus for the evening.

500 miles today.

About the same, or a bit more tomorrow, and then a nice leisurely drive on Tuesday to get home.

Home is where the heart is.

And Wednesday I go back to work hardening.

Yay.

Oh, and the AC is still acting up, although today it worked more than it didn't. The last 120 miles or so it blew hot air.

Yay.

And BACON Racer......................................don't forget the BACON !!!
We had bacon cheeseburgers with fries and a beer today at a little place just outside of Deadwood, South Dakota.

The meat patties were hand formed.

The bacon was extra thick.

The cheese was cheddar.

The fries were cut from unpeeled potatoes and fried perfectly.

The beer was so cold it was almost, but not quite frozen.

It was a perfect lunch.

By the way, any of you ever been to Broadus, Montana?

It is on US 212, about halfway between Belle Fourche and Little Big Horn. I drove that route hundreds of times when trucking, as it is a great shortcut. 200 miles of nothing. No cell service. No internet. Except for Broadus. Cuts off about 60 miles.

Reminds me of a story my grandpa liked to tell about a farmer hiring a helper.
It was a chilly morning so the farmer made them a nice hot breakfast.
The helper started blowing on his coffee and the farmer said "What are you doing?"
The helper said "I'm cooling off my coffee."

They got to work hooking up farm equipment and the farmer noticed his helper blowing into his cupped hands.
"Now what are you doing?" he asked.
"Warming up my hands." said the helper.
The farmer said "You're fired!"
"Why?" asked the helper.
The farmer replied "I'll be damned if I'll work with anyone who can blow both hot and cold!"
Confucius says,
Not even the wisest man,
Can explain why,
A man blows on his soup or tea to cool it,
And blows on his hands to warm them.

The total eclipse next month is going pass right over Carhenge. They have already closed the site for the day. Don't blame them one bit.
