Texas. Very sad story.
A cousin of mine lives near there.

I'll need to message him.

Sad, so sad.....and even worse that it is just a commonplace report nowadays. The numbers may be different but the event is as common as a full moon and about as regular. I used to think we are better than this...but I stopped thinking that long ago.

Your medals are prettier than the ones everyone else has.

People are not getting better despite the façade we like to put on and the hubris to that effect that we compliment ourselves with.

I have an automatic lawnmower.
I've been married to her for 32 years.

Our house is on a 1/2 acre lot, with a small section of woods.
When our lawnmower (son) got married in 2014, and moved an hour away, I found a one man lawn service ran by an Army vet.
He mows, weed eats, and blows off the clippings for $35 a week.
Worth every penny.

I have something approaching an acre to mow, but like our driveway when it is deep below the snow, it grows larger year by year*. Three years back I invested in a self-propelled mower, having grown weary of pushing the rotary and in spite of that one still running perfectly well. The purchase of a Unimog was of course a joke. I couldn't even use either a riding mower or a lawn tractor equipped with a mower because of numerous trees and one sloped area too steep for a rider. The treeless, flat area of the lawn, where we once had a volleyball/bad-mitten set-up and also a swing-set plus jungle-gym, is really a piece of cake even with a push-rotary mower.

* I have commented before that the driveway gets ten feet longer for every inch of snow, and when the snow gets over about 10 inches deep, to me the driveway looks like an alternate landing site for the space shuttle. Saturday I cleared the driveway of leaves and pine needles, using a blower to create piles, a rake to consolidate the piles, a large garden cart to haul away the debris and dump it down the sand pit at one edge of our property. It took me about two and a half hours.

I say things like that to her all the time.
Of course, I make sure I'm not within arms' reach when I do.

Leaves.....starting to fall rapidly. Last year 120+ wheelbarrow loads were burned. It will be mid December before all of them have fallen and been raked up/burned. If it was up to me, I'd just leave them, but Mrs Rupert claims they "hide snakes". My two helpers will be busy starting this week, trying to stay ahead of all the leaves.

Hey, getting slapped silly just proves they're listening to you!

It's only when they have a large solid object in their hand that ya gotta worry... Those cast iron pans pack a wallop!

Our driveway is around 500m (1600ft), really gives the back a workout when shoveling.

Leaves were flying like crazy yesterday when a storm with hail came through.
My feeder swung around knocking over my bird perch branches.
