Artificial.

I won't kill a tree for a pagan ritual.

Take it out of the box, assemble, light and adorn, place evergreen potpourri stinky thing on the fireplace for olfactory pleasure.

Actually we used to have a really mean turkey who would attack anyone. Needless to say, he found his way into the pot in the end.

Of his own volition, or with assistance?

"crotch" isn't.

Oops.

Look at the words which are the premise upon which this whole thread has been built:
"Has anyone ever described you as being "crotchety" before?"

It depends on the kind of pot, I'd assume?

I did grab them crab-cakes before they were all devoured by my daughters! Survival of the fittest, they each had six, me two...

We went out on our horse pulled sledge to cut one down on our 300+ acre back-yard. I do miss the space, not the cold!

Finally got the lights on the tree. The selection of lighting I have is those incandescent mini lights, some strings from as far back as 1980. I still have the very first string I bought, a small one with no pass through used on a Norfolk pine houseplant I decorated each year. When I began having a real, full sized tree, that string became the top string to light up the top ornament. Still works today.

But the last couple of years I have been nursing the large collection of larger strings accumulated along the way. The so called commercial grade multicolored strings I had to run around the outside of the house and do the tree inside began to show their age. The color on the bulbs has faded, some have peeled. A couple of strings have developed intermittent opens that are difficult to trace. Last year we didn't decorate as I was recovering from the foot surgery, and the year before we were in Death Valley for the holidays. As I was pulling the lights out of the storage boxes and testing them, it was clear that the multicolored strings just weren't gonna cut it this year.

So I dug out my old stash of all one color strings.

Purple.

4 strings, color is more lavender than the dark purple they used to be. Who has a lavender tree? Besides, I need about 8 or 10 strings.

Green.

2 strings. Still a nice vibrant green. Green never seems to fade. Oh, and only 2 strings.

Blue.

One string. Most, but no all of the bulbs are a nice deep blue. Some are baby blue.

Red.

8 strings. About all I had enough of in one color was almost enough red to do just the tree. I fiddled and messed around all day yesterday and most of today and had to pick red lights off of some of the colored strings to make up enough to light up just the tree. Also, about 50 bulbs had faded to nearly clear. More rummaging around for bulbs

I looked at commercial grade LED strings a few years ago. A place in Oklahoma along I-35 between Wichita and Tulsa sold the stuff. Really well made, high quality connectors. Expensive.

So I put it off.

Well now I need to watch for the sales right after the holiday. Time to finally make the change to the 21st Century and go LED for Christmas lights.

Oh, and the place in Oklahoma that sells high grade holiday lighting?

They moved.

They are now about an hour's drive from where I live.

Our son came over yesterday.
He cleaned the gutters and yard of leaves, put our lights on the house, helped his mom put out the lawn decorations, and brought the tree up from the basement. We're hosting our family's Christmas this year.
Older pic, but looks about the same every year.

Already?! Yikes.... We usually start the decorating no sooner than the 23rd.

Might start a tad earlier this year, though, since we're going on holiday from January 3rd.

The long weekend gives plenty of time to complete the annual chore of decorating.

The next 3 weekends will be busy.
