Yep, put them right up there with digital cameras and sliced Velveeta for some of man's greatest inventions.
I would call that insightful but for the Velveeta part.

Used to be the gender of an expected child was only a guess. Often the babyís behavior in the womb would supposedly be an indicator.

But that was just old wives tales.

Also used to be that parents used cotton diapers. Rinse them out in the commode, launder, reuse.

Now they use disposable diapers. So lazy.

And at a significant cost too. A woman checking out ahead of me in the store was getting a box.

$34.

I about choked.

The same amount of cotton diapers is about $10, and for pennies they can be reused over and over.

I donít get it.

Only $34. You guys over there have no idea how good you get it with cheap stuff. Boxes of them were almost that price in Australia in the 90s.

What kind of greeting message is that for Rupert when he gets to his house and logs on to see how we are going. He loves that stuff.

Or, at least, that is what he told us.

Yeah, the Velveeta trees of Chernobyl might be a result of man's actions, but they're hardly an invention!

The reason is that cotton diapers need changing every time the baby piddles. And, often, that which needs containing in the diaper does not stay contained.
A store bought diaper wicks the wee away from the baby's skin, keeping the skin dry and you really only need to change it for number two's, so you do not use very many diapers per day.
Yep. And when we all need them for the second time in our lives do you want cotton or disposable?

We had 4 boys and used disposable. I once calculated how many diaper changes we did. Having to multiply that by 2 or three is not a number I want to consider. As a kid, I do remember the diaper service trucks roaming the neighborhood on a regular basis. Pick up one bag of dirty diapers and drop off a bag of clean ones.

Disposables! I want to stay dry, man

...and just when you thought this thread had touched upon every topic possible...

Search this thread for Rupert Velveeta and you get 115 posts, some with recipes.
Otis does not like it though.

Perhaps Christmas morning - - - "whatever will we do with all this tissue and wrapping paper?"
Some questions should not be asked, and many more should not answered.

A quick update:

Jim (Rupert) is home from hospital but not feeling his best.
He thanks each and every one of you for thinking of him. I have, of course, passed on everyone's good wishes and kind words.

Kind regards,
Mark

Home is a step. All of us wish him many more, if not skipping or jogging.

Thanks, Mark - good news that he's home, at least. That's something
