There are regiments in the British Army where the uniform would challenge your sense of yourself:
Bonnet and kilt, at the same time.

It was quite funny the first time I saw a member of one of them, he looked like he was wearing my daughter's school uniform. He had a blue shirt instead of white, and a few more badges.

I have been here a bit over two years now.
A belated welcome to here.
No snow or ice at our here, yet, thankfully.

I wear several...straw and beaver...I look sophisticated with them on my head, or so i'm told
I don't look thuggish until my tweed caps are turned brim-backwards to avoid interfering with my shooting

This is my hat for Argentinian style grilling.
very cheeky

years ago I stitched up a sheath for a guy who had picked up a facon in his travels...Facón - Wikipedia
sewn in the same style as a pukko sheath but with a tab not a dangler

scary sharp and quite long
tucks behind your back...convenient while ahorse or seated otherwise
you do know that amateurs imitating the gaucho's method of consuming bbq frequently end up with severed lips and noses?

When the weather is brisk I don my Mad Bomber leather and rabbit fur hat.

Toasty.
very warm
however the fur pulls out too easily and gets sucked up your nose
coyote and wolf are much more durable

I tie a lot of flies using rabbit
I sneeze for weeks even after vacuuming up the detritus of a session

a lot of the hats sold as authentic drover's chapeaux are fedoras
I even have a couple of flat-braided hatbands from down there (though I suppose you would say they were plaited)

they say westerns and the raiders of the lost ark saved the hat industry in the US
I worked with a couple of guys who started wearing pork pie hats after gene Hackman wore one in the French connection

should you ever get the chance, go to hat shop and see how they are shaped to the particular requirements of their buyers...fascinating!

we must be shallow folk...I used to be one of a small number of flyfishers astream until that damn movie came out

Talking about Popeye Doyle and the French Connection got me reminiscing about the good old days of films. Some great stuff back then, like the Seven Ups. What a cool car chase.

And the ending.

Uff Da!

Bill Hickman...bullitt, the 7-ups and the French connection
Richard lynch...one of best skeezers ever

I've never understood why they drive up in a compact and try to bump a lumber wagon of the road
just a little kiss on the corner and you get all sorts of drama

I had that crappy Pontiac...speedwise...I got it....handling?...they must have put more into suspension than the car cost

btw if the dumbass next to you has his finger on the trigger and no seat belt at speed...push him out or shoot him first...just saying

Well it is Hollywood.

Drama sells.

Action sells.

And all the other stuff, blood and gore, dead burnt babies, women running around with their hair on fire screaming.

From the hat's description:
"Tilley hats stand alone as being built for life and 100% guaranteed to never wear out."
How the hell could you wear out a hat? Well, unless you're Rupert.

"grommets promote maximum airflow during periods of high exertion"
I'm not going to comment about the only "high exertion" I do these days, and I don't wear a hat doing it!
Okay, I'm talking about tying my shoes here.

"The concealed pocket in the crown tightly holds your keys, credit cards, fishing license or other important extras."
How about a six pack of beer?

I have one of the originals
got it sometime in the eighties
it's gone fishing in a couple dozen states...in all weather
it's canoed and hunted
hiked and photographed
now, it rides in the back of the car...just in case

I've ruined a straw Stetson and a felt Stetson in the same time
killed a beautiful harris tweed cap...wore out the brim and snagged it on barbwire

a tilley really is special and worth every penny you will spend for one

other than bert the two best things Canada has to offer is tilley hats and grohmann knives

Nah, I prefer a flat cap to a newsboy cap.

Not the first one to say that... though I get comments about Indiana Jones when I wear it with my leather jacket...

Your comment about 100% guarantee. Do you remember a certain supplier of plastic kitchen goods that offered a 'lifetime guarantee', and only sold through 'parties'?

My wife was most frustrated when there were some products she bought and the representative thought up all kinds of excuses, like, you used the microwave pot in the microwave as an excuse for not giving a replacement. Now she only buys the much cheaper supermarket products and does not feel ripped off when they fail.
