I looked to the Bible for understanding on this issue.

From Ecclesiastes 10:2: The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.

OK, you guys win.

Now you have to help me convince the rest of the world to change all their vehicles over and change millions of miles of roads and signage. While we're at it, we should also make the metric system the global standard and do away with inches, feet and miles.

You must remember that Tim is used to sitting on the right side of the car when driving. Driving on the wrong side of the road. Well, wrong side unless all the other maniacs are driving on the wrong side, too. Sometimes two wrongs do make a right. Sort of.

Usually though, the old saying is right correct:
Two wrongs don't make a right.
But two Wrights made an aeroplane.
I did make a lot of images while driving Monstro and company. While driving. Usually I pre focused and guessed at exposure. Always had the camera within reach. If something caught my eye I snapped a shot or two.

Once in a while I would let the camera try to do it all.

It would focus on the dead bugs on the windshield.

Indeed it was Racer, and on newly "upgraded" tracks.

Six straight days with no Rupert or Otis is like six days without sunshine.

Racer, you might like to take a look at the origin (and the absolute logic ) of your measurement system;

Pre-metric measurements had some interesting, if inexact, origins. Though they have been standardized in countries that use them, they are still difficult for the rest of the world to understand, and even more difficult to explain. For example:
The Foot. This unit of measurement was determined by the length of King Charlemagne’s foot and modified in 1305 to be 36 barleycorns laid end to end. (No measurement for the barleycorn is given.)
The Inch. The width of King Edgar’s thumb was officially designated as an inch. It was three barleycorns across.
The Yard. The distance from King Henry I’s nose to his fingertips. The distance is also twice as long as a cubit.
The Mile. In the Roman legionary, the mile was the distance covered by 1,000 double steps. Queen Elizabeth added more feet so the mile would equal eight furlongs.
The Furlong. The length of a furrow a team of oxen could plow before resting.
The Acre. The amount of land a yoke of oxen could plow in one day.
The Fathom. The span of a seaman’s outstretched arms; 880 fathoms make a mile.

Now why would any sane person move from such an orderly system as that??

Thank you for the review Rod. I found it interesting how many of the standards were based on the size of a monarch's limbs and digits.

With food thrown in.

Oh, and John Barleycorn Must Die.

Just a little ways down the road from me. The tracks were indeed upgraded, and have been rebuilt from the ballast bed up. Brand new tracks on an old line. They have been testing them for months. The train's speed was evidently a factor, but until the NTSB team gets into the black box data recorders, there's no reliable information on why it was going faster than allowed. It jumped the rails at a curve from a long straightaway to a freeway overpass. Newton's laws of motion apply to massive objects like fast trains.

edit: added Google Maps link to the crash site. Train was southbound (right to left) on the tracks paralleling the Interstate. Speed limit on the curve is 30 mph for both freight and passenger trains.

...and little johnny's dad asked...if everybody else jumps off the cliff, does that mean you should?...

frankly, I like it that we...with the exception of racer...remain committed to a certain standard of contrary behavior
