The stuff they never taught us in school.

And had the Canadians won North America from the Mexico border up might be known as the United States of Canada.

Eh?
not quite, the US took control over Texas, California, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah due to US victory in the Mexican American War which happened after the War of 1812.

Do you think we could get them to do it again.

not a political sentiment but an appreciation of conflagrations

I like grits for breakfast.

A nice change from oatmeal.

Glad that didn't happen, otherwise geography back in grade 4 (Canada, provinces, etc...) would have been much more difficult.

By the way, I'm about to go to town, and get some pickled herring and dark rye.

My favorite treat this time of year.

Also some lox, cream cheese, and bagels.

And some more Christmas Cheer for my cup.

Skål everybody.

It is with great sorrow that I must report the death, on the morning of the 19th of December 2017, of James (Jim) Williams, known to many of you as "Rupert".
His obituary is here: James Williams « Wiley Funeral Home

Jim will be sorely missed, by his family and many friends including, of course, those of us who have interacted with him on PentaxForums and off.
Gail has asked that we help keep his memory alive and, of course, that of the eternal squirrel, Otis.

Jim has, over his life, helped a great many people and it's a great pity that we will no longer be able to hear more of his "Rupert stories". We think of Gail, Jim and Gail's sons and extended family and his mom during this difficult time. Please think of them this Christmas.

some folks think that as long as he is remembered, he won't truly be gone

the limited time I have been on the forums, I have always appreciated his contributions

The Republic of Texas has an even better ring to it; especially to a Texan.
Should it occur again I'd be one of the first on the immigration list.
