I miss his wit and wisdom on this thread.

Barossa! But I'm not allowed those at the moment either.

Well, then you will need to make do with Clare Valley.

There was a pre-Napoleonic French queen famous for a quote rather like that.

She suffered a fate rather like Charles I, head not properly attached, and then it came off.

Oh. Now I really do feel sorry for you

Barossa definitely produces some fine shoe polish, though.

If you are after shoe polish there is always Kiwi.

Tinnitus?

Try working in an airplane factory. Wearing earplugs and earmuffs the noise is so high that it is impossible to communicate with someone while shouting at the top of your lungs.

The ringing in my ears never stops.

And yet, each year when they perform the hearing test required by law, they say I am not losing my hearing.

Right.

Is that communication provided like on a mortgage contract form the bank charges you $600 or $1000 to fill in the blanks on, everything is standard form text except for the blank for your name?

He's working hard these days, Bob, and not getting much free time at the computer

As of a week ago, he was doing just fine, though

Ah, the joys of tinnitus... Years of loud music, firearms, loud music... Mine is a high-pitched whistle that is present 24/7/365.24, worse in the left ear.

For me, certain things can help to 'mask' it out. Bagpipes, didgeridoos, and some other oddball musical stuff - something about the frequency patterns gets into my brain and cancels out the whistle. Which is why my Youtube history has so many really weird music videos listed! Like this one:

is there supposed to be " wit and wisdom " contained in the posts to this thread

I didn't see that requirement in the opening post:

I have been waiting for the announcement of the k3 for some time. Now that the camera is out and seeing the pics and seeing "ricoh on the back of the screen turns me off.Only a matter of time before we see Ricoh on the front of the camera.I think ricoh just shot themselves in the foot.My reasoning behind this is I make a living in photography.I shoot lots of weddings and It seems more people ask on what camera I'am using.I have had quite a few people turn me down because I shoot with pentax. They just know canon and nikon.I l was turned down on other major sporting events because I shoot with Pentax. This all happened a few years back and I will admit that some people are starting to recognize that pentax can keep up with the big guys.If Ricoh puts their name in front of the camera I feel it will throw them back to the dark ages..I'am quite happy with my k5s and all my pentax glass and will continue to shoot pentax, but hesitating to by new equiptment because of this matter.I do also own nikon and canon slr's but I'am a pentaxian and as long as it says Pentax on the front of the camera I'am happy.

Mod disclaimer: this thread has turned into a humorous discussion and it no longer reflects facts about the Pentax K-3 DSLR. Enter and post at your own risk, and have fun!

The father of the thread may not have said as much directly... but I'm sure he fully intended it to be the cultural and, if I may say, educational resource it has become...

the local SAM'S club has an independent hearing aid vendor who does a free hearing aid test to attract customers

If I didn't trust the employer's tests I would head there

most hearing aid vendors offer such a service

if nothing else, it establishes an independent test showing your current base line measurements
Go to a vendor who is trying to sell me an expensive hearing aid I don't need?

Right.

They take a baseline hearing test at the beginning of employment and then retest each year. That way degradation over time is documented.

But I think the sorites paradox is the perfect way to describe what happens to everyone who works there.
We had our industrial health and hygiene people attach a SPL recorder to one of our guys for one week, this was several years ago. Haven't seen or heard from them since.
I am lucky I guess, only get an occasional "tuning-fork ping" in my left ear.
