ever get an old tune stuck in your head?

mine is from a film in the 60's starring Michael Caine ( a cockney miscast as an upper class British Officer ) and Stanley Baker and has a fine cast

the film is " Zulu "

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058777/y

which depicted the historic battle of Rorke's Drift

the battle is between British forces defending themselves from attack by the Zulus

Battle of Rorke's Drift

https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=battle+of+rorke%27s+drift+1879&view=det...4784&FORM=VIRE

_____________________

unfortunately, the song I have stuck in my head did not happen in real life but as depicted in the film being song by the garrison in defiance of the Zulus chanting

it was great

" A new set of lyrics for the Welsh Anthem "Men of Harlech" was written just for this film. People still mistake this version of MOH for the "Original".

The "Zulu Film Lyrics" are:

Men of Harlech, stop your dreaming:

Can't you see the spear points gleaming

See the warrior pennants streaming

O'er the battle field

Men of Harlech, stand ye steady

It can not be ever said ye

For the battle were not ready

-- Welshmen never yield!

__________

From the hills rebounding

Let this war cry sounding

Summon all at Cambria's call

The mighty foe surrounding --

Men of Harlech, on to glory

This will ever be your story:

Keep these burning words before ye --

Welshmen will not yield! "

_________________________

some other reported trivia about the film

Because the film was shot in South Africa, the cast and crew were lectured on the need to refrain from fraternizing with the topless tribal dancers, since the penalty for interracial sex in the country at the time was seven years hard labor.

The then Minister of Native Affairs banned the film for screenings to black South Africans, as "it might incite them to rise up in revolt".

The battle chants used by the Zulu warriors were used in the opening battle scene in Ridley Scott's Gladiator (2000), when the Germanic savages were held up in the tree line.

my copy was on video tape and I have no idea if it is available now

my wife hated it.

I usually describe it as eating spongy brackish water. At best I see eating the things as an unpleasant wast of time. Especially if you have to rinse them as well - I'm certain you spend more energy on that than you get from eating them.

Or to put it another way; they're the cockroaches of the sea.

People listen to Maroon 5, too. What's your point?

Why did I suddenly think of the British Museum?
Yes, the Elgin Marbles is probably the best illustration of 'Thanks for displaying and looking after these exhibits, but it's time they were back in our country. We have museums and paying tourists too, now.'

I like shrimp just fine, what I don't get is eating raw oysters.
(or lutefisk)
(or anything with rosemary in it or on it)
(or fennel)
(or anything "planked" on cedar)
(or eggplant)

Great adventure film, Aslyfox. The later 'Zulu Dawn' isn't as iconic but is still worth watching.

Oh, boy... there are very few culinary treats I enjoy as much as a dozen super-fresh, raw oysters... a little splash of vinegar, a drop or two of tabasco, maybe a twist of lemon... And I don't go in for that "swallowing whole" nonsense, either. I chew them a few times first to get that "taste of the sea". Washed down, of course, with a nice crisp glass of decent Chablis - perhaps Champagne, even... or, in a pinch, a glass of ice cold dry cider. Yummy!!

I've a hankering for some monkfish lately, and on the few occasions I've cooked it in the past, I've wrapped it in prosciutto ... but the thread talk here, and my recent re-discovery, has me thinking that small cubes of SPAM fried in a little soy sauce would be an excellent accompaniment instead of the prosciutto. I'm sure I'm breaking some foodie rule pairing monkfish with highly processed, mechanically reclaimed meat, but it sounds soooo good to me <drool>

Guess I rely on Wiki too much.
"Barbie" is Australian slang for barbecue and the phrase "slip a shrimp on the barbie", for Americans, often evokes images of a fun social gathering under the sun. Australians, however, invariably use the word prawn rather than shrimp.
