really haven't watched all that much soccer ( as we call it )

but I thought " taking a dive " as we call it

happened when the opponent ran onto the field as opposed to your claim of the opponent coming near a shadow

". . . poverty for lawyers . . .

hush your mouth

I always thought, and I did tell them, that court stenographers had the potential to become rich since they basically get paid by the word

and who ever knew attorneys (lawyers/ barristers ) to use one word when they could use twenty

ever read an brief written by an attorney

it ain't brief

Get well. I know people such things have happened to, and they got better. The illness and the hospital part were bad.

Well it's good that you've got around another 26 feet of it

But in all seriousness, doesn't sound fun and hope you get better soon.

To me, US spellings often seem simplified - and I mean that in a positive way...

In 1990, in the Usenet group rec.arts.sf-lovers, Nicoll wrote the following epigram on the English language:

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and riffle their pockets for new vocabulary.[6]
All those French "u"s were stolen all fair & square! If you can't lift words from your nearest neighbours () then what's the point, eh?
