So if you were to suggest one place in Kansas that should not be missed while driving through; what would it be?
A place with a toilet ... maybe when you are half way across?

Dodge City looks neat, but smells like cow poop.
I was thinking something more on the "natural" side of things....a canyon, a mountain, a nature trail, etc ;-)

In Sequim.

Does anyone here know how to pronounce Sequim?

It isn't how it looks.
I do (bein' a native Warshingtonian Seattlelite and a member of the Lesser Seattle Society!).

It's as much fun as getting folks to pronounce Puyallup properly

Then there is the population density.
We lived in Rice county for three years.
When we lived in New England I described Rice County KS as being roughly half the size of Rhode Island, but having a total population of under 10K.
when I moved to Kansas I became aware of " frontier " designation

Urban

Rural

Frontier

based on population density

at one time, I believe, there was a movement to buy out property owners in certain states and recreate the Great Plains

Small towns rock!
I show my location as St Louis, but live in a county south of the city, rural but near a small town.

The people are the most valuable thing in the state.
We lived in Sterling KS 2003-06, where the entire town {all 2700 of them} celebrates July 4th together.
This year I wore my 2006 shirt on the 4th.
small towns can be a blessing

and a curse

fitting in can be a problem

I grew up in one 2,200 or so

didn't get exposed to much of the real world tho

and who hasn't caused any problems in town for 30 years

that guy ? "

I've tried that once or twice

if I recall correctly

extremely " smoky "

but nice if you can get by that

oops

I think I might be confusing it with

Laphroaig

can anyone help me out on that
Oh, they are both plenty smoky. Lagavulin is rather smoother and gentler of the two, though. Laphroaig is uncompromising smoke, iodine, and seaweed all the way through. I find both highly enjoyable.

Caol Ila is another favourite.

There is at least one Irish Whiskey I really like too. My neighbour at the last place I lived loved his scotch whiskey but he poured me a really nice Irish Whiskey a few times. The name escapes me.
