I've been retired for 15 years from land surveying for 38 years, and yet I still have dreams, fairly often, of being out in the field with my crew.
The other night I was trying to get an old style transit set up over a control point, and when I finally did, I had forgotten how to read the vernier scale, it was a nightmare!

Dave, "H" is for historic.
Closer look shows Club Permit along the top of the plate.
From the VicRoads site;
"A club permit can be issued to the vehicles in the following categories.

Veteran vehicles – manufactured before 1 January 1919
Vintage vehicles – manufactured after 31 December 1918 and before 1 January 1931
Classic and Historic vehicles - manufactured after 31 December 1930, but more than 25 years before the date of the application for a club permit.

These categories can include trailers, heavy vehicles, left hand drive vehicles and modified vehicles such as street rods. Replicas of vehicles in the categories above may also be issued with a club permit.

A club permit vehicle must comply with the Vehicle Standards, appropriate to the date the vehicle was manufactured, contained in Schedule 2 of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009.

A club permit cannot be issued to:

a currently registered vehicle
a vehicle that is recorded on the Victorian or an interstate Written-off Vehicles Register as a statutory write-off
a vehicle that has a sheriff's office or hoon sanction
a vehicle that is recorded as stolen."
Hi Rod
Thanks for that comprehensive rundown of the historic car register.

Y'all should check out this site: 11 FOOT 8 - The Canopener Bridge

Lots of videos featuring dimwits who should not be let out of their cage each day.

Like this military vehicle driver.

On the plus side of only being HS educated is no student loans had to be paid off.
It would have been hard to do with a $100 per week salary.

in my case, it meant I could do the kind of work I wanted to do
It worked out well for both of us, I cannot think of anything I would've liked better than surveying.
Outside, physically challenging at times, mind challenging often, moving from project to project, no boss staring over your shoulder, etc.
It didn't make me rich, but solid middle class suits me fine.
