Hey, just trying to fit in with the millennials

Congrats to Mr Grog!
I have to admit there is something to that

I wanted to check out who had won and

what that person had done -

was it a new member,

one who posted a lot in June to build up the number,

some one who was a regular contributor,

stupid I know none of those things matter

the bigger shock to me is that not all the spots could be filed

I expected thread # 4 to be filled quickly as Threads 1, 2, and 3 had

what gives - bad timing or what

any thoughts

Perfect timing so far as I was concerned. I had no chance of getting into the first one and the second and third one was sleepytime.

I stayed up to get into the first one

despite I was reasonably sure that I would be entered automatically into the one for August

since Adam has said that the top posters in June and July would get a spot in the final contest

I was in the top posters in June and I think I am in the top posters for July

This form of competition has certainly pushed up the post count.

Definitely! I think the raffles have caused a good deal of positive activity. And going on over three months it might leave a lasting impression, too. Maybe it even has "activated" more lurking or new members. At least one can hope so.

As I said in another thread, the order of "raffle" threads might be an issue here. The theory is that we would enter into the thread most convenient time-wise, but in fact everyone made room in their schedules to crowd into the first one, and in the end the last one may have been truly for people in the "right" time zones. . . .
if your goal is to get into the contest

and you have flexibility

you would enter the first contest and then the others if you didn't make it

you would not wait for the most convenient

school and/or work would be an inhibitor

staying up late - not so much

IMHO, YMMV

. . . BTW: this behavior may make sense .... in both months, the winner came from the first thread.
is there something there ?

or just a coincidence ?

isn't it a random number selection which would not favor whenever the winner qualified

I didn't mean to imply that this means anything, but people can make a pattern out of almost anything - I might see Jesus and Mary in my morning toast {if I were having toast this morning}
ok

I agree with you

coincidences abound

I wonder if we will ever know how close we will get to the 55,000 posts in July mark

I doubt it unless we reach achieve it

then I expect an announcement that our winner gets the K 1 II

Adam has said that there will be a change in the horizontal " thermometer " used to track the number of monthly posts so that progress toward the higher goal will be tracked as well

despite my delusion about being all powerful

I admit that I don't think that I can control what there is available to eat at your house

We see patterns everywhere. We need to as it is how we make sense of things. In 1975 my uncle published a small book called "Perception and Photography". In 1997 it was republished as "Perception and Imaging" and went through 4 editions by the time my uncle passed away. It deals with the psychology of how we look at the world.

From Google Earth. Anybody see a face here covering parts of the states of Washington.Oregon and a little bit of Idaho? Definite proof of ancient aliens using superior technology to sculpt the planet.

I didn't at first, it helped when I tipped my laptop back to darken the image.

some of us, to one degree or another,

- like organization and schedules

- think that we are not responsible for things that don't go our way

- think that we aren't getting what we deserve

key is not to let those beliefs, to the extend we have them, control us
