I am forced to use it
very occasionally as that is how our local U3A Computer Club tends to communicate but SWMBO uses it daily, and there is
one advantage
(of a very few!) that I can see: If she uses the Messenger function then she can talk to her friends/relatives without needing a phone (her brother is currently in a part of Southern France where mobile coverage is almost non-existent) because it uses a VOIP service - that doesn't cost me anything
