Okay, time for a Rupertesque story.
When I first arrived in South Dakota, courtesy of the USAF, the man who was my supervisor seemed incredibly familiar to me. In height, weight, facial features, mannerisms, speech patterns, everything, he was a dead ringer for my uncle. Well, almost everything.
My uncle wasn't black. My new boss was. If not for that one detail they could have been mistaken for twins.

Well there are those who happen to have been born there.

Another thing we cannot choose.

When I was about 12 my buddies and I were riding our sting ray bikes down a hill, then launching off of a large pile of dirt in a field, getting some good air.

My sister, 11 at the time, had a large, heavy bike, 24” balloon tires, a real tank of a bike. She watched us all day, then we saw her pushing it up the hill. I tried to stop her, but she would have none of it, she was going to make the jump.

So we all gathere by the dirt pile and watched as she came flying down the hill, gathering considerable speed. She managed to stay on track, and got pretty good air, as that huge bike flew in a graceful arc.

At the apex of the arc the front wheel came off.

The forks impaled the ground about half their length, and my little sister took a big bite of sod.

She immediately jumped up and ran to the house, crying violently.

I sure felt bad for her.

Fortunately no major or lasting injury occurred.
She was incredibly lucky! Could have been dead!

My #3 son spent some time at Ellsworth AFB as an air traffic controller. It was his first duty station. He had some awesome stories of other worldly experiences out there. He was there , but no on duty, when the Northwest Airlines plane mistook the the runway there for the one in Rapid City. I stopped at the Air and Space Museum there when I drove through the area last May.

These are way cooler than anything that Racer builds.

No argument from me.

The B25 is the coolest one in the photo, cooler than the B1.

Yes she was. But kids are resilient at that age, and she bounced back pretty quickly. Fortunately the landing zone was lawn, and the worst she got was a mouthful of dirt and grass, a bloody nose, and injured pride.

After I pulled the bike out of the ground, and retrieved the front wheel I put it back together, tightened the nuts securely and she was back riding later that day.

But she never tried any stunts after that.

Is that a twin beach back there on the left?

I saw a friend in grade 6 do something similar right in front of me. Same thing...in a field, jumping a jump and over the handlebars. I will never forget that....and same, only scrapes and bruises. It's good to be a kid.

Looks like a Beech 18, which I think was known as "The bamboo bomber" and was used for training.

I found the owners manual for the tripod. It was in a barely visible pocket on the inside of the tripod carry case. It described what screw was needed to assemble the monopod. It is a lot sturdier when done with the correct screw. The paper with the instructions is written in .01 size type.

I'll have some of whatever gaweidert's having.
I think he meant to post that in the recently acquired thread.
