Did you two also do the stone laying?
No, the GC I hired is the son of a stone mason, and before he became a carpenter he worked with his dad to learn the trade, and he laid the slate, set the stones and mounted the maple.

One of the stones is not actually from the river by our home. The weekend prior to setting the stones on the wall, the GC and his family spent the day on the beach at Camano Island State Park, a park on a nearby island. He brought a rock from the beach there that he saw and thought it would add a nice personal touch to his work.

A shot I made of the fireplace just before we moved in to the new house.

Garlic is good for arthritic joints.

I use it copiously in my kitchen.
Last time we made aioli we followed were inspired by a recipe stating 2-3 egg yolks and "three or more" cloves of garlic. We didn't need that much, so used just one egg yolk but went with the "or more" for garlic.

It turned out very well.

Very cool fireplace, Racer! One of the nice things about our history of glaciation here in Pugetropolis is the *wide* variety of rocks you find in the riverbeds... The ice brought us all sorts of raw materials from scraping their way south across all of proto-Canuckia!

Why do they knock you out for colonoscopies? Here, those are usually done awake.
In Australia they were done asleep. Good thing.

It is my understanding that they used to do them while the patient is awake, but sedated some here too. But for some reason they decided to put the patient down.

Might have something to do with shoving a camera on the end of a 2000 foot hose into something that for most of us is an Exit Only.

I've had 4, all while "in that other place".

The gastroenterologist is sending me "we miss you" cards again. I guess they want to do another Exploration Southwest again.

You know this line of work too well for your own good, Charlie

I have a short breather now, though. Maybe enough time to plan the trip later this year

He has almost no will power
The prep kind of puts me off food.

On that note, in my recipe hunting activities I recently came across a Southern American "delight" that I vaguely remember hearing of, but never knew what it was:

The "Ambrosia Salad".

The recipe I read was as follows:

1 (8 oz.) tub of whipped topping, thawed
1 cup sour cream
1 (20 oz.) can pineapple tidbits, drained well
1 (15 oz.) can mandarin orange segments, drained well
1 cup red or green seedless grapes, sliced in half
1 1/2 cups sweetened coconut flakes
1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
1 (10 oz.) jar of maraschino cherry halves, drained very well (optional)
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Now, I like to consider myself a culturally broad- and open-minded individual, but where the heck does that come off as a salad??!

I love the USA... I've had many a good time there, I have respect for its constitution and especially for its peoples... but please, someone, tell me where whipped topping and marshmallows figure in a "salad"??
They have done violence to the language of our ancestors, perverting all its forms and usages.

That actually sounds good, except for the tomatoes; unless they were home grown, that is. I can't remember the last time I had a commercially grown tomato that wasn't the texture of an apple and the flavor of a glass of water.
That describes all the supermarket tomatoes here. No good for cooking.

Actually it is a she, not a he.

And I bet she drives a Lexus or an Infinity.

Maybe a Range Rover.
