This is because any man that can carry something that big and heavy isn’t a guy you want to mess with. I have moved it twice since then, and I doubt there is a man alive who could carry it away.
Well, maybe Chief Bromden could carry it off.

Not that small a margin around here. Looks to be about 70% female medical students now.

Actually produces a problem. The number of student places available is heavily regulated by the doctors' trade union, AMA, and the numbers assume graduates will work 'normal' hours, but many women want to work short hours and/or broken career. The effect is that the doctors can think of a number at which to sell their services because there is buyer side competition, and they denude third world countries of doctors who want to migrate, and then, because they are very dependant on the existing doctors for registration they can bully them strongly. Had a friend who got a High Court case about that, and then a Senate inquiry.

With that size feet you should be able to feel the curvature of the Earth.

Oh.

Right.

Never mind.

You believe the earth is round? Do you have a justified true belief in that? Otherwise you do not know the earth is round.

I've never understood this caffeine thing. I can have as many espressos as I want, any time of the day or night, and it makes not one iota difference to my sleep. (Unless I forget to water the lemon tree before I go to bed)

Interesting cup. Where from? Not a Chinese tea cup, is it?

We had a safe like that in Cape Town. It used to be my dad's, but he wanted something smaller and it was too heavy for their apartment floor. No man could lift it. It weighed close to a ton. Whenever you wanted to shift it, you rang Chubb and they sent a bunch of guys and all kinds of specialist gear to get it up off the slab and moved. We sold it with our house in Cape Town. I guess it's probably still there!

Did you give the buyer the key and/or code?

Mine only weighs around 600lbs empty. Part of that is the steel it is fabricated from, and part is the gypsum sheet (the same stuff used to finish interior walls with) it is lined with to achieve the fire rating.

Gypsum, should use asbestos, need less of it!

I think the problem with women working part time or broken careers is less pronounced here, at least in high wage positions. The norm is for children to go to kindergarden from year one, and for mom and dad to share the maternal/paternal leave of the first year. And while we happily accept doctors from abroad, they will have to learn Norwegian first. That sort of makes it less attractive to come here than gonig to Manchester.

It will be interesting to see if the wages for doctors will take a dive, though, like for other "women's work".

No, no, I realised the implication - which was why I told you not to mind little me. Typical of you NASA guys to pick up on that tiny slip.

The Canadian Space Agency guy who canoe trips with us sometimes is the same. He corrects every little thing, but he can't figure out how much macaroni is needed to feed 6.
