But I don't think it would offend me.

Nope.
Hi Racer

Theres another 200+ million that might be
Television rights as much as it finances the different sports,it also ruins the said game with ad breaks governing the time played.
My observation

American football is 60 minutes of play and a halftime break wich, 30 years ago, was about 20 minutes.
Today that 60 minutes of play plus halftime takes 3 and a half (minimum) to more than 4 hours to play. Essentially, if the ball isn't in motion the clock isn't running so there's time for a few commercials.
Football has become slower and more boring than baseball.
I've seen golf rounds that were more exciting.

Ha, the Cards just tied the game against the Mets, top of the ninth, man on second.
Now the infield is covered with a rain delay.

Okay, maybe not quite as boring as baseball.

So here is how I see it.

The game as played in North America, we will continue to call American Football. Pretty sure everyone would be onboard with that.

The other game, played with a ball similar to the American Football in shape, although not size, played by a bunch of hooligans who refuse to wear any protection or helmets (and I would guess they don't even wear an athletic supporter or a cup, those boys are that tough), and put up much more of a fight over the ball than those Americans ever did, well, i think Rugby is a perfect name for that game. And I bet everyone else would agree, for the same reasons

The other game, where a bunch of guys kick around a ball that isn't really round, but a truncated icosahedron, and bounce it off their heads, but don't dare touch it with their hands, well, I think we should call that game No Hands.

Does anyone want to second that motion?

I have no problem with naming a game American Football because the qualifier word distinguishes which brand of football.

If the TV channels were only allowed to show ads when the soccer players score a goal (while they take the ball back to the middle to re-start the game) the effect would be they would add about 6 yards to the height of the goal and 6 yards to each side of the goal, but still have one goal keeper. Scores would be much higher, 20 and 30 goal matches would be common. And because a goal is scored so often the fans would not be so immature as to do things that would get them arrested and earn a life time criminal record just because the other side scored a goal.

Wait until the fans find out their beloved game has been named No Hands Truncated Icosahedron.

Most of them probably haven't a clue what truncated means, let alone icosahedron.

So it is Foot And Head Truncated Icosahedron
Close enough. It could also be called "roll around on the ground in great agony because somebody stepped on your shadow".

Bunch of wusses with helmets and shoulder pads, anyway.
Since no ball is involved, how about "no balls"?
