He might be having a nicotine enema.

It was all the rage back in the day.

Damaged the right knee cartilage (and likely the inside of the knee cap itself) working in the garden almost exactly 6yrs ago, and it has given me a lot of trouble and paid ever since - especially over the last couple of years

Finally got an appointment to go into hospital today for a knee arthroscopy and "cleanup" of the menisci in an effort to reduce the effects of the damage. Now back home with the knee up on a support and with an icepack on top it, and doesn't feel too bad until I start walking around - but no booze and cigars (SMALL ones!) until at least tomorrow evening !
Bummer.

So they have you walking on the leg with the bum knee immediately after the surgery?

Now that I thunk about it, I had one earache when I was a kid, and dad blew cigarette smoke into it.
No recollection if it helped, but must have been an old time remedy, or perceived remedy.

Remember when doctors pimped cigarettes?

Unless you're being sneaky, and referring to something I'm missing.
No, not being sneaky.

When you say things like that, I worry that you're being extra sneaky

Find a doctor today that would advocate tobacco use.

I think you would be hard pressed to find a doctor that even smokes.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find one that admits it publicly, that's for sure

Meanwhile, I am frequently informed by my local practice's nurse that I should keep an eye on my fluctuating weight. The fact that she's like a beach ball shouldn't matter, of course. She's lovely, has a nice smile, and I believe I went to school with her Mum... so it's all good
