I've had a few days off (from the Thread); no time to catch up completely, but I did see reference to running out of petrol (gas), the range of different vehicles, and the price of petrol (gas).

The only thing I have to say about that is that when my brother bought his first car he would pull up at the bowser (at a SERVICE station) and ask for 10 shillings of petrol (= a dollar after we converted to decimal currency in 1966) - on payday he would hand over a pound (=$2) and say "fill-er-up". It now costs more than that to run my lawnmower.

I have our bowser set to the price of petrol in 1962. 36c for a UK gallon. Those were the days!

We got about 2 inches of light fluffy stuff, stopped now.
Blew off my grill, and path to it, with a leaf blower.
The steaks must go on!!
Leaf blower? Must indeed have been fluffy.

But...

Dave
I never understood this thing about not being hungry when it's hot. I get hungry no matter what the temperature is. Of course, if it's really hot I get less active, and as a result less hungry. But again, I get less hungry when I'm inactive no matter the temperature.

And I get more hungry when I don't get enough sleep. Which I guess makes sense.

All this hunger talk makes me hungry. Good thing lunch time is fast approaching.

Of course, I was not born yet, but our bowser is older than me.

Better than living in Neverland, isn't it.

Then again, Straya doesn't exist, so...

36c in 1962? That's Saffer cents, then, since Kiwi cents didn't exist in 1962?

Let me see if I got this right; what eventually became 36c would have been 30p? Or 2/6d, which is a half-crown? So a pound would buy you 8 UK gallons, then.

I know oil was dirt cheap, but I wonder, what were the wages like back then?

Well, that too. But more often I eat food that doesn't need cooking.
