I have our bowser set to the price of petrol in 1962. 36c for a UK gallon. Those were the days!
When I first started driving in 1971 gas was about 25 cents a gallon. Then the gas wars started and the price dropped to 19 cents a gallon.

My first job paid $1.25 an hour.

36c in 1962? That's Saffer cents, then, since Kiwi cents didn't exist in 1962?

Let me see if I got this right; what eventually became 36c would have been 30p? Or 2/6d, which is a half-crown? So a pound would buy you 8 UK gallons, then.

I know oil was dirt cheap, but I wonder, what were the wages like back then?
Saffer cents, yes. However, metric measurements was introduced in 1970-1972 so the bowser, which is a '37-'48 model, would have been converted to (partial) metric in about 1970, leaving it with face plates in Rands and cents but still measuring gallons, not litres. So, 36c / gal was the correct price, converted, as it would have been Shillings and pence per gallon in '62.

I can only assume that Rands and cents / gallon was an easier conversion for the computer than Rand and cents per litre, but why they did not go all from shillings and pence / gallon to Rands and cents / litre, I don't know.

Good day, all...

I've fallen behind on the thread (again)... in fact, moderating activity aside, the forums as a whole. Hope everyone is doing well, and that Bob - @robtcorl - is firing on all eight cylinders now?

After threatening to visit the barbers a couple of weeks ago, I've been lazy and didn't go. Then, on Friday last week, I decided I'd do it myself. I plugged in my Babyliss clippers to charge and left them on overnight, next to my bed. On Saturday morning, after breakfast, I unplugged the clippers and tried the on/off switch. Nothing. Nada. Then I noticed that the handle section - in which the non-replaceable rechargeable battery is stored, was badly melted!! So badly, in fact, I'm truly amazed it didn't catch fire - especially since the clippers had been resting on my wooden bedside cabinet.

Note to self, and to all my friends here - don't leave batteries or rechargeable equipment plugged in overnight.

Anyhoo... I ordered a new set of clippers - Wahl, this time - from Amazon, and they were delivered yesterday (thank you, Prime). Charged them overnight, used them this morning, and they work a treat. Got rid of all my beard, too, then had a wet shave, trimmed my eyebrows, nose hair and the feline-like hairs sticking out of my ears. I was on a roll, so finished off with a manicure - hands and feet.

I am ready to re-join civilised society once more

Mrs. Racer 2.0 has cut my hair for the past 23 years.

Well, except when I let it grow out. The first time was around 2001 to 2007, about when I started driving big trucks. Long hair in Louisiana, in July, when dragging heavy tarps over a load sucked.

So I had her chop it off, and kept it short until my left foot surgery.

Currently, it has been just over 3 years since her scissors have been near my mane.

Temporary reprieve from the Christmas cookie ban hammer. My wife made two different kinds of cookies yesterday and I happily resumed QA duties until the ban hammer fell again.

The Buffalo Bills won again. There is a strange disturbance in the Force.

I never understood this thing about not being hungry when it's hot. I get hungry no matter what the temperature is. Of course, if it's really hot I get less active, and as a result less hungry. But again, I get less hungry when I'm inactive no matter the temperature.

And I get more hungry when I don't get enough sleep. Which I guess makes sense.

All this hunger talk makes me hungry. Good thing lunch time is fast approaching.
I get more hungry in the winter than summer, because the cold sucks the energy out of you. But I'm hungry all the time.

I was, but have some new crud now, and Mrs Bob has it too.
Drainage, coughing, etc., I'll leave it at that.

Snowing again, we're supposed to get 4 to 6 inches on top of the 2 we already have.
Called the doc's office to reschedule tomorrow's yearly checkup, the office is closed due to the weather.
