Have fun with that! I like Shirley Temple all right, but there's only so much saccharin I can handle before I got to find something else!

My son/grandson (a long story) would adore you. He's five today and his favourite animals are dinosaurs and Zombies.
I'm a peds nurse. I see all sorts of long stories. They usually involve what I refer to as sperm donors & incubators, subsequent abuse and/or neglect, followed by several removals & failed reunifications before finally getting a happy ending with a permanent guardianship.

Well since she died last month it's sort of a remembrance.

They're always painful stories too, Parallax. I've met many, many grandparents raising their grandchildren.

Too many macho young men, too many submissive 15 year-old girls trying to prove they're adults. Children having children. In Nunavut, we have 'custom adoptions' which skips a lot of the bureaucracy. Simply an agreement between the parenting sides to take the child. Worked well in the old ways, I suppose, but can be abused as well. Often, if you ask a teenage mom-to-be if she is keeping the child, the response is "If it's a boy, I'll keep it. If it's a girl, I'm giving it away".

One of the symptoms of the continued destruction of our society!

I'm old enough to have been taught what it meant to be a gentleman (not that I am) and a lady. And how a gentleman treats a lady. And what a gentleman never does to a lady outside of the marriage bed.

Though at the time we scoffed at the silly, Victorian strictness of it all, I and my dates were pretty tame by comparison with our peers (which made visiting their parents' homes at college holidays MUCH more pleasant, let me assure you).

I think our parents and grandparents weren't so silly after all.

Warmed up to -26C today but with nice, clear skies we can probably count the heat-wave over. Keeps the mosquitoes down though. And not one traveling salesman flogging K3's to be seen. But that could be due to the wolf tracks around town also.

Hmm. Hope things don't warm up too fast or things could get a touch soggy in Iowa.
