Gotcha.

Not quite that size.

More like:

But hey, it isn't the size of the ship that gets you seasick, it is the motion of the ocean.

Currently 62 F (16.6 C)
A slab of baby back pork ribs will face the heat of a Weber grill later this afternoon.
No boiling involved, no kidding.

Not quite like that. The streets at both ends are too narrow to move house like that.

I will move out of the one where I am and take my stuff to put in one which is already where I am going.

The destination is about 12 to 13 miles from the current house.

I see. So you and your stuff are moving, the house is staying put.

But hey, they can move houses even when the avenue isn't wide enough. Just jack it up.

Hey! That's Alpha Home Movers. I know the guy. If they can't move it in one piece they cut it in half with a chainsaw.

But the old place is made of bricks and owned by my landlord and the new place is made of bricks (and other stuff) and will be owned by me.

I've been invloved in moving a small house that way - for a friend, of course; cut it loose from the foundation, then lift it with a crane onto a lorry. The crane guy had to disable all the stops and warnings to make the lift with an extended boom, but he insisted the crane could do it. He was right. I believe the nominal limit was four tonnes - I have no idea what he really lifted.

That's what we did, too. I hope I'll never have to do it again. And really, why should I. It's a nice place and it's ours.

The previous one was ours, too, in practice. The formality was that we owned the right to live there as part owners of the communal owner - which is better tax-wise - but in practice it was ours. At the new place we own it in every way even though the surrounding property is co-owned with our neighbours.

Bah, my vocabulary isn't up for discussing these things

Was doing dome more chainsawing today, as people do, and when I was done and went to stop the saw the kill switch had disappeared. Luckily I have acquired a skill of stalling small engines...

For "have acquired the skill of", read "just can't help". If they won't stop, he threatens them with bagpipes...
