Any bike with straight handlebars is an abomination.
It's like they're trying to mimic some carnival ride.
REAL bikes have drop bars.

That sentence was written to get a reaction

In all honesty, I find road biking very monotonous, much prefer riding cross country on simpler trails, which I would totally do with dropbars if I had a cyclocross style bike with suitable gearing for it.

Maybe you need a new road bike Robert! I don't find it monotonous at all. You never know what you may find on the road!

I only really use the road bike to shuttle canoeing, when the spring flow is too strong to solo paddle upstream. Half the time I ride it in sandals or neoprene shoes...

Trying to prevent myself falling down the bike-buying rabbit hole...

Round here? Mud. And more mud.

You say it like it's a bad thing. You can always trade in your bagpipes!

Apparently some cyclists don't mind getting muddy.

Looks like you're up a creek without a paddle.

Paddles? Where we're going, we don't need paddles.

Had a number of former colleagues who were into competitive road cycling, and at one point the office discussion for round to falling off the bike and a phenomenon known as "gravel rash". There was much debate over whether legs should be hairless (these are all male by the way) to reduce the potential clean up after such an incident. One colleague confessed to shaving his legs, another used a depilatory cream he "borrowed" from his wife.

He did confess that he had an issue the first time though, he'd applied the cream and then wen tout shopping with his wife, and about half an hour later complained to her that it was rather warm and starting to sting, which made her ask "you did wash it off, didn't you"? There was a classic "huh?" moment, followed by a short spell in the closest Gents toilets as he tried to wash the cream off his legs in the sink.

Up to 16 I rode my bicycles a lot, an awful lot. I had two an English made Glider and a J.C. Higgins. Both were standard bicycles with sit up and beg handlebars, one speed and back in the '50's and early '60's this type of bike was common.

Rarely did anyone have a multi speed bicycle...oh there were a few...mostly Gliders with 3 speed Sturmey-Archer gearboxes...but that was it. Racer style and Mountain bikes came much later in my part of the world.

When I was 16 I got into motorcycling and that was it for my bicycle. I loved motorcycling. At first European bikes, then Japanese, then English. Still love motorcycles....not cruisers, but sports, adventure type bikes.

When I was in my 30's I bought a large frame racing style bicycle....10 speed, thin tires, downturned handlebars. It was ok but I preferred a motorcycle.

Anyone else like me, or am I a minority of one ?

I like bikes, motorized or not.

I don't judge.

Just ride.
