Some thoughts on personal grooming during COVID lockdown (St. Loius is strictly locked even though they say we’re in Phase 1 of reopening):
  • Sideburn trimmer on my electric razor works for errant hairs in nose, ears, eyebrows, the neck hair below the collar line, that one hair the razor misses that grows out, etc.
  • I gave myself a haircut with the trimmer, a comb and barber scissors from Walgreens
  • I have a Zoom meeting tomorrow with Home Office managers and I looked pretty scruffy
  • The waiting line at Great Clips was 87 minutes today, and you had to wait - no leaving and coming back. NOT.
  • Win 10 updated itself last night to the point I had to tell my PC my MS account ID and password. I had a momentary pucker when the Blue Welcome Screen appeared because my PC is an integral part of my WFH technology - it is my printing workaround since the Firm won’t allow us to attach local printers to their corporate laptops. Fat lot of good it does to print on a network printer 15 miles away in an office that is locked tight as a drum (I email documents to myself and print from my PC)
  • While mrs monochrome recovers I’ve been doing all the cooking - about a year. I made Episcopal Soufflé which includes bacon, so I tried the microwaveable bacon in a pouch. Tastes like crispy bacon.
  • I made Egg MCMuffins tonight except I didn’t scramble the eggs. Used egg rings, toasted English Muffins, cheddar squares and Canadian Bacon. Mayo on mine, not for mrs monochrome
  • I actually ironed a shirt for the Zoom meeting
  • I also set up a nice background
  • I don’t want to smell or even see anything with a Hormel label ever again, especially Compleats microwave meals
That should cover the main topics discussed over the last week.

Hope Racer adjusts to the Big Shed. I don’t get to go to the real office until July 1.

Then I quit and joined another company.
Sounds like my pal in the food industry after graduation: umpteen takeovers, buyouts, restructuring and he was still there. Finally he retired. Result!

Sensible girl.

Ironing the collar surely must be enough

Good point, I need to find some good backgrounds.

Something that doesn't make me look scruffy.

Perhaps something like this.

Sav, that is a first class mess.

(but you would be too humble to say anything of yours was first class)

Thanks, Rod, but I can't take credit for that mess. It's the doing of some of those football "supporters" just across the North Sea from here.

Adjusted and settled in.

We are all getting up to speed processing documents and entering data.

About 20,000 records to go, in the first round. I hope we can stretch it out over at least the next 15 months or so.

I can all too easily imagine the sort of crowd you mean. Time to cancel the AirBnB listing.

At least windows is quite solid now. I can basically forget about it. If you are a Linux guy then Linux is not so bad to set up but I am not so I spend more time messing around with the OS that I really want to.

From years ago....

VMS is like a Soviet railroad train. It's basically industrial-strength, but
when you look at it closely, everything's a little more shabby than you might
like. It gets the job done, but there's no grace to it.

The Mac operating system is like the monorail at Disney World. It's kind of
spectacular and fun, but it doesn't go much of anywhere. Still, the kids like
it.

Unix is like the maritime transit system in an impoverished country. The
ferryboats are dangerous as hell, offer no protection from the weather and leak
like sieves. Every monsoon season a couple of them capsize and drown all the
passengers, but people still line up for them and crowd aboard.

I can forget about it too. I switched to a Chromebook after one of the "updates" trashed my laptop.
The side benefit is that I can just chuckle and move on to the next story when I come to the daily "Latest Windows Threat" news story.

Yeah I do that too, but that’s more a measure of how much credence these stories get. Happy with W10 and the software I use that needs it.
