Ha, amateurs! One of my teeth spontaneously decided to disintegrate on its own, independent of any outside sources (no injury or caries/cavities). It's called internal granuloma:

'Internal pulp granuloma is a very rare disease that is usually caused by traumata. According to Schroeder [1], internal granuloma is a very rare phenomenon with a prevalence of 0.1-1.6 %. Reports about internal pulpal granuloma and internal dentin resorption are found scarcely in the literature [2–4]. Additionally, there is no clear knowledge of the etiology of this disease [5]. Trauma, chronic inflammation of the dental pulp, direct pulp capping and orthodontic tooth movements seem to be the most frequent reasons of its occurrence [6]. In most cases, it is diagnosed by hazard or in case of fracture or mobility.'

So essentially mesenchymal pulp cells inside my tooth decided they'd had enough of their boring existence, turned themselves into so-called 'odontoclasts' (basically several macrophages fusing to form a mega-cell-of-destruction) and started to eat my tooth from the inside. Was found by chance and my dentist offered to do a root canal on it, but admitted that because it's so rare she had never seen a case herself. Kindly referred me to a specialist who had actually done a couple of those herself, did a successful root canal, and that was the end of it

I finally made out what I think is a squirrel.
I think Rupert's wife shot it with her mobile phone. It looks almost monochrome. Maybe some filter?

Being a gynecologist he must be good at rebuilding the Ferrari engine by reaching through the tailpipe, eh?
I'll have to dig out the caesarean photos so that we can see if he had a steady hand.

Don't you rebuild a Ferrari starting from the 'C' pillar then progress towards the front and back of the vehicle,,?

Independence Day is an excuse to grill food, drink beer, and blow stuff up. So I do. This year I had electric matches, and a wireless remote control ignition system. It was fun, and with time I should get good at timing the photos with the launches.

The beer.

The stuff blowing up.

Gonna blow up more stuff, either next weekend, or the one after that. The oldest grandson has enlisted in the US Army, and ships out on the 26th. Also, the 6 year anniversary of my time at The Big Shed is the 25th, and I max out (reach the top of the pay scale for my job). So it would be a great time to celebrate some, eh?
Are you going to do that at work. They have a nice big area to do it, and even to invite guests (paying or otherwise) to watch?

I was thinking something similar.
Back in the late 50's, early 60's when skateboards really took off there was an orthopedic surgeon in the San Francisco Bay area that claimed he put his son through college on revenue from skateboard injuries alone. I suspect corn nuts and Laffy Taffy were the dental equivalent of skateboards.
I have an oncologist friend. She can take her whole family, four adults, anywhere in the world she wants to go, business class, on the miles earned on her credit card which she uses to buy the medicines she on-sells to her customers. Travel has been a bit curtailed for the past few months.

In more different news, yours truly let a PhD student drag him into the control arm of the immunological sub-study of our institute's large Covid cohort study, had half his blood drained for all sorts of serological and genetic tests last week, and got a message today that he as 'an interesting IgA and T cell response'. So naturally they want the other half of my blood tomorrow to take a closer look.

And I will get swabbed. I have tortured hundreds of poor patients that way so far, now it's my turn to tango. Yikes.

While stationed in Alaska I encountered many black bear and a couple of wolverines.
The bears were far less intimidating than the wolverines.
Never seen wolverines either. The closest is this guy, every bit as mean spirited as the wolverine.

Oh no, now I know why her name tag says 'Dr. Acula'

But I got a little children's sticker showing a cute little virus with googly eyes wearing a mask reading 'I was brave - #togetheragainstcovid' that I put on my laptop, so I've already profited big time
