A couple of years ago we had quite a bit of snow in February. One day I went to work, which was not easy because of the state of the roads. Saw several other cars stopped by the deposits. Left the office soon after to go home. Near the 12th century bridge over the Thames on the A415 I saw a Landrover in the ditch. I got home with no drama other than that provided by others whom I saw.

Looks like I will be relieved of much of this kind of drama this winter. Our area is going into another fairly strict stay home being antisocial, by order of the government, period.

Funny, they still have an offence called ‘antisocial behaviour’.

That's what I said, it's not bacon. Just open the plastic package and fry up a strip.

I had a sort of opposite experience back in the UK about 40 years ago. I lived in a small village on the edge of the Pennines. On a snowy day I drove my old series 2 landrover to the next village on a country lane. I was in 4wd and doing about 25 mph when I noticed a little ford escort following my. I thought he was being a bit silly keeping up with me, until we hit a bend. I drifted round it and he went straight on into a field.
I was laughing as I reversed back round the bend, threw him a rope and pulled him out of the snow.

There were never too many old style Land Rovers in my part of Canada back in the '60's and '70's. However I can think of a couple.

There was an early morning radio announcer/personality for the local CBC who had an early generation Land Rover and the story was, that he had it in order to ensure he got to work in time at the ungodly hour of 3:30 AM...no matter the weather and we had plenty of winter snow storms then, as we still do now.

Then there was a former work colleague (late '60's) who also had an early Land Rover. He was a photographer for the publishing company I worked for at the time. Back then it was very unusual...rare.....I would say to have a 4WD vehicle of any kind.

We had just experienced a blizzard (recurring theme I know ). As a result, there was snow everywhere and the city snowplows were still working hard to clear the roads . At a staff meeting the boss, the publisher asked the photographer...... why he had a Land Rover ?

The photographer replied that he needed it, to get out of the company parking lot !

I have been stuck to the point of having to be pulled out or having to dig out only twice in my life. Both times I was driving a 4 wheel drive truck.

So painfully true Jim.

But even with my check engine light blinking frequently, I keep pressing on.

Run hard, or go home. If you can’t run with the big dogs, then stay on the porch.
I have to add one more line.

As I get older I have come to appreciate a bit of a rest in a comfortable chair. It can be so rejuvenating.

Provided I don't fall asleep.

Back in the '80's a buddy had a full size Chevy Blazer....350 V8-4 barrel, lifted suspension, large mudder tires, locker rear axle etc. He was in his 30's and hunted with a couple of guys in their 70's. The old guys...actually my age now ...had 2 WD sedans and wanted him to bring his 4WD Blazer out to the hunt, so they wouldn't have to make the considerable walk, through and to the wet, muddy fields to the duck/goose blinds.

He always refused as he felt his Blazer, albeit capable with it's 4WD.....would be able to get 50 feet beyond the reach of the tow truck's winch.

I can't.

We bought a LazyBoy recliner and every night like clockwork (after supper, around 7:15 pm) I drift off, generally in the middle of a 'Murder She Wrote'...starring Angela Lansbury or an episode of Monk.

My wife gently wakes me up as if I sleep too long in the evening it means I won't be able to get to sleep at night till around 2:30 pm.

I tell you....the trials and tribulations of my golden years !

Kinda like when we are babies. Parents don't want them to sleep during the day, because they will be up all night.

Exactly.

Our daughter, now in her 30's, had great difficulty going to sleep at night when she was a baby. Hard to believe but some nights the only way to get her asleep was to bundle her into her car seat and take her for a drive in the back seat of our old '83 Pontiac Phoenix on a nearby highway. She would conk out within 10 minutes. The Pontiac had those old style GM plush seats, however I don't know if that had anything to do with getting her asleep.
