In darts, an 'F' is next to a 'D'. Don't go there.
On a French "AZERTY" keyboard, it's the same ... "D" next to "F" in same place ... and I never made money on darts or golf ... but did turn a buck or two on buying/restoring/reselling muscle cars and their (exotic) parts many moons ago in a far off land ...

I've never understood the appeal of the sport. Maybe it's something to do with the whiskey.
Oh come now!

What better way to spend the day than hacking about a pasture, smacking a little white ball around, socializing with 2 or 3 of your best buddies, and drinking beer?

Beer.

Is there anything it can't do?

Golf isn't really sport. It's an activity. There is no head to head competition in golf. It's not even as sporting as shuffle board. It's not like curling where you knock the others guys stones out of the circle. There's no full contact golf. The fact that you walk around with four other guys, most of the time they aren't even your main competition in a tournament. Watching it is worse than televised shuffle board. There is nothing in golf that suggests it's even a competition, except the endless , mindless drivel spouted by the announcers.

What does it take to be a sport? An opponent who is actively doing something to stop you from achieving your objective, besides farting as loud as he can while you wind up for your Tee shot.

Think Tennis, a guys serves balls at your body at 110 MPH. Or football, a big guy launches his 320 pound body at your head. Or hockey, a 200 pound guy tries to squish you against the boards going 25 miles an hour. Even in baseball, the other team is actively trying to take way everything you do. In golf, it's mostly walking around with a dazed look on your face. We don't even see real golf. The golf with the real money. A friend of mine who tended bar in a wealthy Toronto golf club saw millions of dollars in deals closed every day. What these golfer are making is peanuts. The real money in golf is made in the clubhouse after the "activity" and a few drinks have been consumed. There in lies golf's real purpose. To loosen up the movers and shakers for some real action. Remarkably, that hasn't made it to reality TV yet.

Or hang gliding and white water kayaking... two sports where the more expert you are, the more likely you are to die doing it.

Hey, I've been there. As I passed through I recognized the streets from an episode of COPS.
