Well it is not the whole of 5 days.
Play is scheduled for 6 hours of actual playing time each day (after two hours play is suspended for lunch, 40 minutes, and after another two hours "tea" is 20 minutes)
When the match is played in England there is a guaranteed day and a half, or two days, of rain which severely shortens the time spectators get to see play.
Rain can happen in other venues, but without the same guarantee as for England!
Of course for us Aussies, when played in England the end of play each day is 3am! (That's for us in the eastern states - Western Australia is lots different)
It can mean loss of sleep, even for my late aunt who was still sitting up watching till stumps at age 97.
