Um, not in length. And it's fairly large in area, at least by European standards, anyway.
Well it does have a very long coastline. But as far as square miles (Norway is 148,718 sq mi) California (163,696 sq mi) covers more.

There is that archipelago up in the Arctic Sea, Svalbard. Does anyone actually live there?

I've always found it funny how American media and even the CIA World Factbook always provide comparisons with US states to explain the size of foreign countries. Like 'India is about the size of Texas, Montana and Minnesota combined' or whatever.

About 2,500 or so do. Even have a university college up there (UNIS) where I always dreamt of studying for some time, but they do nothing that relates to my subject

There's magic in the air ... I just pulled the car inside the fence and it's a crystal clear night with a FFull MMoon ... magical.

OK, kind of lame there ... but if I had written FFull FFoon, would you have gotten my rather odd humor ?!

OK.

To compare Norway to other provinces (states) or countries:

Yukon is 183,163 sq mi.

Newfoundland and Labrador is 144,353 sq mi.

Paraguay is 157,048 sq mi.

I'd go on but Mrs. Racer is nagging me to get ready for work.

To summarize:

The media are usually playing to the US audience, so using US states as a frame of reference makes sense. Most high school graduates (and even a large number of college grads) couldn't locate Germany on a world globe. Many even have trouble figuring out where other states are in relation to the one in which they reside.

Or that Montana and Minnesota are actually in separate geographic locations.

A couple hundred students and academics, a few mine workers, three bartenders, and whole bunch of polar bears.
